FUNimation to unleash Evangelion 2.0 movie in 2011

FUNimation also announced that it has acquired the home entertainment, broadcast, digital and merchandise rights to the animated sci-fi action film EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE from NTV. 

EVANGELION: 2.0 YOU CAN (NOT) ADVANCE is the second of four films by Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara based on the 1990’s Gainax “Neon Genesis Evangelion” anime series, a long-running anime about teenagers defending the world from machines and mass destruction.

 The film is produced by Toshimichi Otsuki and directed by Hideaki Anno, Masayuki, and Kazuya Tsurumaki from the screenplay written by Anno. The mechanical designer is Ikuto Yamashita.  

The setting is Tokyo 3, an outpost in a future world devastated by the "Second Impact." Attacked by shape-shifting mecha-behemoths known as “Angels”, what's left of Earth is defended by giant "Eva" robots piloted by high school students. Selected for duty by NERV, a top-secret military organization, the children are linked to their Evas by a design feature that channels the spirits of deceased family members into the machine's circuitry. The lead pilot is Shinji (voiced by Ogata), the troubled son of emotionally distant NERV scientist Gendou Ikari. Rebelling against his predestined path, Shinji is brought back into the fold by teacher-mother figure Misato Katsuragi (Mitsuishi) and fellow pilot Rei (Hayashibara).  

FUNimation Entertainment will release the film on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011.

FUNimation launches SUMMER WARS

FUNimation Entertainment announced that it has acquired the home entertainment, theatrical, broadcast and merchandise rights to the animated sci-fi action film SUMMER WARS from NTV. 

Released in August 2009 in Japan by Warner Brothers, SUMMER WARS is produced by Madhouse and directed by Mamoru Hosoda. SUMMER WARS is the second full-length film that Hosoda has made as a freelance director. The first, THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME, an animated movie in which the teenage heroine discovers that she can travel to the past, received rave reviews from critics and audiences worldwide.  

SUMMER WARS reunites many who worked on that film, including scriptwriter Satoko Okudera and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto.  

The SUMMER WARS story begins with Kenji, a timid math prodigy who seems better suited for virtual worlds than his more intimidating high school. When class cutie Natsuki asks Kenji to accompany her on a family trip to celebrate her great-grandmother’s 90th birthday, he instantly agrees, not realizing she intends to present him to her family as her fiance - a ruse that forces Kenji, who hides behind an avatar online, to role-play in the real world as well.  

The plot thickens after Kenji solves a math riddle that inadvertently brings a worldwide social networking site to its knees and throws the real world into confusion. Suddenly, this large family in rural Japan must work together to stave off a world crisis.  

FUNimation Entertainment will release the film theatrically in 2010 and on DVD and Blu-ray in 2011. 

Spike Spencer To Voice Character Takuma Ichijo in Vampire Knight

LOS ANGELES, CA - July 29 - It has been announced that Spike Spencer will be voicing the character Takuma Ichijo from the popular Anime series Vampire Knight

For those unfamiliar with the storyline of the popular graphic novel, Vampire Knight takes place at Cross Academy, which is attended by two groups of students: the Day Class and the Night Class. At twilight, when the students of the Day Class return to their dorm, they cross paths with the Night Class on their way to school. Yuki Cross and Zero Kiryu are the Guardians of the school, protecting the Day Class from the Academy's dark secret: the Night Class is full of vampires!

Takuma is the vice-president of the Night Class, he is a noble-class vampire who is almost as powerful as Kaname, whom he is close to and respects, and can be seen reading a manga from time to time. Takuma maintains a close friendship with Senri Shiki, whose great grand-uncle is also a member of the council.

His grandfather asks him to spy on Kaname, but he refuses out of loyalty and attempts to break free of his grandfather's mold. Takuma attempts to protect the possessed Shiki Senri, forced to go against Kaname in order to protect all his friends. Following Shiki's freedom from Rido's possession, Takuma has rejoined Kaname's side, where he appears in time to stop Kaname from killing his grandfather and instead insists on being allowed to handle the issue. It is strongly hinted at that Takuma intends to end his life along with his grandfather, saying "Together, let us put an end to the Ichijo line." But it is revealed that he never got his wish, as he was discovered unconscious afterward by Sara Shirabuki, one of the only known Pureblood vampires, who said that she always wanted "to have" Takuma, as though he were simply a doll or a toy. He is currently in the hands of Sara Shirabuki, who is torturing him to extract information about Kaname. After the one year time-skip, he seems to be living with her and quite healthy.

Transformers star Megan Fox disses Bay, wears a Voltron T-shirt

A little boy in the audience asked him how he felt when saying the Green Lantern Oath for the first time. Reynolds thought the kid was so cute that not only did he recite the Oath, but he also autographed something for him. It was a really great moment as you can see from the video:

COMIC-CON: More Boos in Hall H

[Saturday, July 24, 2010] During the Trailer Park session in Hall H, the trailer for the movie Devil stood out. It started as a very interesting clip and some people in the audience commented that so far it looked good, then the name of the director was shown and all 6,500 people in Hall H groaned and booed. COMIC-CON: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

[Saturday, July 24, 2010] This panel was a disappointment. Very little in the way of new footage was shown. In fact, it was mostly the trailers we've already seen. And since this would be the last Comic-Con before the last film can be promoted, we were expecting most of the primary cast to shown up, but instead only one cast member managed to find time to attend: Tom Felton (Malfoy).

COMIC-CON: Green Hornet

[Friday, July 23, 2010] Seth Rogen stars as the Green Hornet. Seth commented that his hero is J.J. Abrams and that he is often mistaken for him. Jokingly, Seth has no problem taking the credit for his films.
