STAR WARS Fan Short with Realistic Animation

[Source: Yahoo] There’s nothing like a good Star Wars fan film to satiate, or whet, the appetite for an adventure in a galaxy far, far away. A new short film from a production company in Australia may somehow do both, as it packs some serious animation into a two-minute clip. The video’s visual effects are so stunning, in fact, it’s easy to imagine mistaking the footage for real actors working on a real set. At least for parts of it, anyway.

The Australian production company Wireframe Cinematics recently posted the short film to the YouTube channel Frostbite Cinematics. As the creators note, this was the company’s first attempt at a short film. And they made it as an entry into the Cinematic Captures fan film competition.

The short, Against All Odds: A Star Wars Animated Short Film, drops viewers into the middle of a blaster fight between clone stormtroopers and battle droids. We then watch as our protagonist, one of the stormtroopers, sees his buddies die all around him; coming right to the fine edge between life and death himself. That is, just before his other buddies come and rescue him with a Republic Gunship. Just like this LEGO Republic Gunship, but way more realistic.

Although the story is brief and simple the visuals are jaw dropping. The creators note they sourced most of the short’s models, textures, and animations from Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. The whole thing was put together using Unreal Engine; a game engine (or software framework) developed by Epic Games.

It is produced by Charles Roven, Avi Arad, Alex Gartner, and Ari Arad. Executive producers are Ruben Fleischer, Robert J. Chris Ayres, voice of Dragon Ball's Frieza, dies at 56

(May 16, 1965 – October 18, 2021)

Chris Ayres, a voice actor with over 200 credits
to his name, best known for playing Frieza in
the Dragon Ball series, has died at the age of 56.

[Source: Entertainment] Ayres' girlfriend and fellow actor Krystal LaPorte shared the sad news on social media, writing, "On October 18th at 8:40pm, my world went dark. Christopher Owen Ayres passed away peacefully, held close by his mother, brother, and girlfriend."

She continued, "Chris loved you all. How much he loved other people filled the vast majority of our conversations. To those of you who truly loved him back, thank you. To those of you who stayed in touch, checked on him, reminded him that he was so, so much more than his job, you were the fuel of his fight. You fed the dreams of a future that kept him going longer than any normal person could go."

Ayres was diagnosed with end-stage cardio obstructive pulmonary disease in 2017, and openly shared updates on his health battles on social media, including his hospital stays and surgeries. Though LaPorte's statement didn't mention a cause of death, she did reference those health struggles. "I hope where you are, the first thing you did was take a long, deep breath with your perfect lungs and danced again," she wrote.

Ayres first took on the role of Frieza in the Dragon Ball series after joining Funimation's dub of Dragon Ball Z Kai. He continued to be a part of the franchise, ending with the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie.

Funimation shared their condolences upon learning the news, sharing in a note on Twitter, "Rest In Peace, Christopher Ayres. Thank you for all that you've done for so many fans. We'll miss you dearly." Adult Swim also tweeted, "RIP Chris Ayres, Frieza Forever."

Ayres delivered a number of other anime performances throughout his career such as those in Maburaho, Black Butler, Sengoku Basara, Gantz, Tears to Tiara, Fairy Tail, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and many others. He also served as ADR director and scriptwriter for numerous English dubs.

Meet a Dysfunctional Family of... Psychics

FreakAngels was a post-apocalyptic webcomic created in 2008 by Eagle Award-winning writer Warren Ellis and artist Paul Duffield, and published in book format by Avatar Press. The plot focuses on twelve 23-year-old psychics living in Whitechapel six years after civilization in Great Britain is destroyed. It is now an animated Crunchyroll Original.

Warren Ellis' synopsis of the plot involves characters "living in a post-flood London that they might possibly have had something to do with." The so-called FreakAngels, who possess telepathy and many other "special" abilities, such as space-time manipulation/distortion, and pyrokinesis, live in Whitechapel.
As the story progresses, eleven of the FreakAngels are introduced and their role in the community is expanded. For the most part cooperatively they have created a small community of roughly three hundred people with fresh water, watch towers, markets, home-grown vegetables and a medical clinic. Their society is threatened, however, externally from refugee attacks and internally from personal conflicts and crime.

Toss a Coin to Your Witcher...

THE WITCHER - Season 2
You can't escape the monster within.
Revisit the journey so far and get a glimpse of what's ahead.
The first episode of the new season would be an adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's A Grain of Truth – one of the stories, on which the show is based, that was cut from the first season. It's a story of a father and daughter coming together in a place that doesn't quite feel safe for them – and of course, we really get into Nivellen who's played by the incomparable Kristofer Hivju, and we get to explore his character and his backstory with Geralt as well. It's really the perfect kick-off for season two because it's about family. It's about the secrets that we keep from each other, and it's about the monsters that we are inside sometimes. Convinced Yennefer's life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen, While the Continent's kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.
