'Guardians' Christmas Special

Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
Watch the brand-new trailer for Marvel Studios’ Special Presentation: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, now streaming only on Disney+.

The Guardians of the Galaxy purchase Knowhere from the Collector and take in Cosmo the Spacedog as a new member. As Christmas approaches, Kraglin Obfonteri tells the Guardians the story of how Yondu Udonta ruined Christmas for Peter Quill in his childhood. Mantis discusses with Drax on finding a perfect Christmas present for Quill, as the latter is still depressed following the loss of Gamora. After brainstorming for ideas, they decide to go to Earth and retrieve Quill's childhood hero, actor Kevin Bacon.

Mantis and Drax arrive in Hollywood, Los Angeles, where they attempt to search for Bacon. After spending time at the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a bar, they acquire a map of celebrities' residences and locate Bacon's home in Beverly Hills. Bacon, who is waiting for his family to come home, is terrified by the appearance of Mantis and Drax, and attempts to escape. Police arrive to help, but Mantis places them and Bacon in a trance before taking Bacon with them. As they return to Knowhere, Mantis and Drax are disappointed to learn that Bacon is an actor and not a real-life hero. Later, the Guardians surprise Quill with a Christmas celebration, but Quill is horrified to learn that Bacon has been kidnapped against his will, demanding that he be returned home. On the Guardians' new spaceship, the Bowie, Bacon learns from Kraglin how he inspired Quill's heroism, and decides to celebrate Christmas with the Guardians before returning home.

The Real Reason Disney Re-Hired James Gunn

YES! He's Ba-a-a-a-ck!!!
The Avengers aren't the only ones making a huge comeback this year. Disney and Marvel Studios have made the unexpected decision to re-hire James Gunn to finish what he started with the Guardians of the Galaxy series. What happened in the months since Gunn's firing to make this unlikely triumph possible?

To call James Gunn's firing in July 2018 "unexpected" would be a bit of an understatement. Under Gunn's direction, the Guardians came out of nowhere to become one of the most successful series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe... pretty impressive for a property that was all but unknown before 2014.

On top of the money the movies brought in, they also earned rave reviews, making talking trees and trash pandas beloved household names for families across the world.

But as Gunn's sudden firing seemed to demonstrate, all of that success meant nothing in the face of corporate mandate.

The third Guardians movie was originally set to begin filming in fall 2018, but was shut down indefinitely after the controversial decision was made to fire Gunn for provocative past tweets.

A few days after Disney's decision was made public, the main cast of the franchise rebuked the company with an extraordinary open letter calling for Gunn to be reinstated. The remarkable show of support left many hoping that the situation could be turned around. But publicly, the company was unswayed, and it soon looked like Disney would rather scuttle Volume 3 in its entirety than bring Gunn back.

Watch to learn more about the real reason Disney re-hired James Gunn for GOTG 3!

Marvel's Rocket & Groot

R O C K E &  G R O O T
[Source: Syfy] There's already an animated Guardians of the Galaxy series on Disney XD, and now that show is getting an online spin-off that focuses on Rocket and Groot.

It's called, um, Rocket & Groot.

The pilot finds Rocket and Groot having a bit of engine trouble with their ship, which lands then in Broker's Junkyard. But instead of fixing up their old clunker, Rocket spots a shiny new ship. He just doesn't actually have any credits in the bank. Hmm ...

The series is set to run for 12 webisodes, with new installments dropping over the next few weeks.

The show is rolling out on the Disney XD media channels, but don't let that fool you. The hybrid, cel shading animation is top-notch, and this series looks like it could be a fun little distraction for kids and adults alike. As /Film notes, Rocket comic artist Skottie Young also consulted on the character designs for the shorts and his influence certainly comes through. The characters are voiced by the same folks who bring them to life in the Guardians animated series, Trevor Devall (Rocket) and Kevin Michael Richardson (Groot).

The entire Rocket & Groot web series is set to be available by April 10. In the meantime, check out the first episode below.

Marvel confirms a Guardians animated series

[Source: blastr.com] Before they return to the big screen, Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot will get their own small-screen adventures.

During San Diego Comic-Con earlier this year, Marvel Animation revealed some Guardians of the Galaxy test footage that seemed to indicate that an animated series for the characters -- whose hit film hadn't yet hit at the time, but was already building huge buzz -- was on the way. A month later, though, Marvel's vice president of current animation, Stephen Wacker, said no series had been announced and that the test footage was just that: a test. At the time, Wacker played up future appearances by the Guardians in other Marvel animated series, but declared the company "definitely did not" announce that the team would be getting their own show.
Now, nearly two months after that declaration, Wacker and company have announced, via The New York Times, that a Guardians of the Galaxy animated series is in fact happening, and will hit Disney XD sometime next year.

Titled Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, the series will feature the same five members of the team from the film, though Disney hasn't addressed whether any of the film's cast will be involved in the show. The series will reportedly take place right after the events of the film, and the Mad Titan Thanos will "figure prominently" in the story. According to Wacker, Marvel Animation has made it a priority both to maintain the sense of humor of the film and not to "underestimate" the show's young audience.
“You can’t be afraid to go deeper, to explore stories and characters with some depth," he said. "This audience may be young, but it can spot a stinker a mile away.”
So, two years before Guardians of the Galaxy 2 hits theaters, we finally know for sure that we'll get much more of the gang in animated form.
