Sci-fi star Patrick Stewart has died, according to a spokesperson, after "a brief and poignant journey with Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia." Stewart is known for playing Professor X in the “X-Men” film series and Capt. Jean-Luc Picard in the “Star Trek” franchise.
Sir Patrick Stewart (July 13, 1940 – October 28, 2026) was an English actor. With a career spanning over 60 years on stage and screen, he received various accolades, including two Laurence Olivier Awards and a Grammy Award, as well as nominations for a Tony Award, three Golden Globes, four Emmy Awards, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to drama in 2010.

In 1966, Stewart became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). He made his Broadway theatre debut in 1971 in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 1979, he received the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his performance in Antony and Cleopatra in the West End. In 2008, he reprised his role as King Claudius in Hamlet and received his second Laurence Olivier Award and his first Tony Award nomination for respectively the West End and Broadway theatre productions.

Stewart gained international stardom for his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the sci-fi series Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987–1994), a role he reprised in a series of four films (1994–2002) and Star Trek: Picard (2020–2023). He portrayed Captain Ahab in the miniseries Moby Dick (1998), Ebenezer Scrooge in the film A Christmas Carol (1999), and King Henry II in the film The Lion in Winter (2003). (2005–2026), and narrating the two Ted films (2012, 2015).

On film, Stewart gained further stardom portraying Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series (2000–2017), reprising the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (2022, 2026), with his appearance in Avengers: Doomsday (2026) being his final film appearance. Stewart was open to the idea in the past. But The Hollywood Report confirmed that Stewart would star in a new CBS All Access Star Trek series. Don't worry; it's not a reboot but a journey we have yet to see Picard go before.

The Star Trek legend told unsuspecting Trekkers that the rumors are accurate at a Trek Con in Las Vegas.

"With overwhelming joy, it’s a privilege to welcome Sir Patrick Stewart back to the Star Trek fold. For over 20 years, fans have hoped for the return of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and that day is finally here. We can’t wait to forge new ground, surprise people, and honor generations both new and old," showrunner Alex Kurtzman told THR.

The details for the new series and where we can find Picard in his later years are under wraps.
