First Look at Rooster Teeth's 'gen:LOCK'

gen:LOCK teaser trailer features
Doctor Who's David Tennant in action
[Source: Syfy] t's already been reported that Doctor Who's David Tennant will be lending his vocal stylings to the new Rooster Teeth mecha sci-fi series gen:LOCK, but now, thanks to a newly released teaser trailer from the Austin-based company, we have our first official listen to Tennant in the previously teased role of Dr. Rufus Weller (aka "Doc"), the inventor of the technology that features in the show's name.

Tennant joins the previously announced voice cast for the series, including Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) — who is also producing gen:LOCK through his company, Outlier Society Productions — as lead Julian Chase; Dakota Fanning (Coraline) as pilot and Chase's love interest Miranda Worth; and Koichi Yamadera (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell) as recruit Kazu Iida.

gen:LOCK, part of the next phase of Rooster Teeth's planned animation slate, will revolve around a diverse group of young pilots tasked with operating giant, mechanized robots as part of a fight against class warfare. The story takes place in a dystopian, futuristic version of Earth.

Check out the first trailer released by Rooster Teeth above, which features Tennant in the role of Doc and a new character named Colonel Raquel Marin, voiced by actress Monica Rial (RWBY, Fullmetal Alchemist). From what we can garner, Tennant's Doc has a promising new pilot initiate to train, known as Yasamin Madrani. Unfortunately, it may be a little easier said than done to secure her, as Colonel Marin doesn't feel too inclined to spring the newest recruit free from the Mesa Detainment Center.

What will happen when Madrani and Chase ultimately cross paths? We'll have to find out when gen:LOCK premieres in January 2019, with a planned eight-episode first season.

Abandoned Classic Animated! - Shada Teaser

Dr. Who's "Shada" gets animated
[Source: Syfy] Long-lost Doctor Who story “Shada” is finally coming in its entirety thanks to BBC Worldwide, and we have a first look at the animated version of the classic Fourth Doctor (Tom Baker) adventure.

Originally meant to close the 17th season of Doctor Who in 1979, the serial, written by legendary author Douglas Adams (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency), was never finished thanks to a strike at the BBC.

Nearly four decades later, the story has finally been completed by the team behind the animation of that other lost Doctor Who episode, “The Power of the Daleks,” by using original and remastered footage (they had access to almost seven hours of raw footage), as well as color animation to fill in the gaps. Said animation will also feature the newly recorded voices of original stars Baker and Lalla Ward (Romana), reading from the original script.

“'Shada' was one of my favourite Doctor Who stories,” Tom Baker said in a statement. “I have many fond memories of shooting the location scenes in Cambridge, and it was disappointing not to finish the story in studio. I’m so glad that BBC Worldwide have found a way to bring fans a complete visual version.”

“Shada” was previously adapted as a novel titled Doctor Who: Shada: The Lost Adventure by author Gareth Roberts, and as a Big Finish radio play starring Eighth Doctor Paul McGann.

The story sees the Doctor (Baker) working with his companion Romana (Ward) and retired Time Lord Professor Chronotis (Denis Carey) to defeat an evil alien named Skagra (Christopher Neame), a genius hailing from the planet Dronoid who is planning to steal the secrets of the planet Shada, on which the Time Lords have built a high-security prison.

Fans will be able to get their hands on “Shada” when the complete adventure is released via digital download on Nov. 24, and on Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 4.

Dr. Who's Superhero-themed Christmas

DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
The Return of Doctor Mysterio
BBC America has debuted a first sneak peek at Doctor Who’s upcoming superhero-themed Christmas Special “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” during the BBC’s annual Children In Need telethon (in the UK).

The nearly 3-minute-long clip features Peter Capaldi — who’s obviously back in top shape as the Twelfth Doctor — as well as Matt Lucas as Nardole, who was last seen with his head separated from his body in last year’s Yuletide special “The Husbands of River Song.” Lucas is said to be a regular presence in Season 10 when the show returns in the spring of 2017. And although that’s great news in and of itself, I’m really just glad to see Nardole back in one piece! Phewwww!

The special taking place in New York City will also introduced Charity Wakefield in the role of Lois Lane a fearless reporter, and Justin Chadwick as a super-strong, bullet-proof Superman-like superhero. Here’s an official description of the Xmas episode:

The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat. Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids, Little Britain) returns to the series as Nardole and Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) joins the cast in a guest starring role as Grant.

“The Return of Doctor Mysterio” is penned by showrunner Steven Moffat and will debut on the BBC, BBC America and Space on Christmas Day.

Doctor Who - Disney-style

“She wished for a prince. She got thirteen.”

That’s the very much Disney-like tagline which shows artist Stephen Byrne's rendition of Doctor Who companion Amy Pond surrounded by all 13 incarnations of the beloved Time Lord — not forgetting the TARDIS.

First look at Peter Capaldi's Doctor in costume!

Peter Capaldi in "In the Loop" (2009)
The Doctor has a new look as Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins. In a picture released today by the BBC, Capaldi can be seen in the costume that will define his time as the Twelfth Time Lord in one of TV’s biggest roles. Sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes, the look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”

Filming for episode one of series 8 began earlier this month, after 10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first much-anticipated glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor. Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, commented: “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume. It’s sharp, smart and stylish – The Twelfth Time Lord means business."
