We Remember...

WAR GAME
Based on the picture book by Michael Foreman, WAR GAME tells the story of Will, Lacey and Freddie – three young Suffolk lads who leave their idyllic country lives to fight in the trenches of World War I. Surrounded by the chaos and confusion of war, they can only dream of their football team, their friends and the families they have left behind.

On Christmas Day 1914 however, a football game is started between the Germans and the English. Scrambling onto No Man’s Land, the men come face to face with the enemy they have never seen and the true futility of their fight. For a brief moment - differences are forgotten, the men unite and the seeds of hope are planted. But joy has no place in war and the men are soon recalled to the trenches to continue the battle.

From a football game in the fields of Suffolk to a football game in the heart of Flanders - WAR GAME follows the realisation of three young men’s ambitions to play for England and the ability of the human spirit to exist even in the harshest conditions. Featuring a powerful and moving sound track from the composer Julian Nott, and including Kate Winslet on the voice track.

WAR GAME has 18 won awards worldwide including: The British Animation Awards; The Pulcinella Award, Italy; Best Television Special - Annecy International Animated Film Festival, France; BANFF International Television Festival, Canada; Tokyo Kinder Film Festival, Japan; Best Animation Prize, ANIMA, Argentina.

Animated short about soldiers in Afghanistan...

"R.A.S." - by Lucas Durkheim
For months now, a group of five young soldiers have been stuck, bored, on a mission in the middle of the Afghan mountains. One day, during a support mission, the routine is finally broken.
"I've often heard from Vets that being a soldier is 90% mind numbing boredom
and 10% pant-shitting action. This short is a perfect representation of that."

At last, Henry Cavill unhinged...

THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE
Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, THE MINISTRY OF UNGENTLEMANLY WARFARE is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including author Ian Fleming. The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques. Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare – In theaters April 19
Starring Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, with Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.

Bear witness to the horrors of anti-cuddliness...

UNICORN WARS
It’s “Bambi meets Apocalypse Now” in this provocative and strangely beautiful horror comedy from acclaimed filmmaker and illustrator Alberto Vazquez (Birdboy: The Forgotten Children), who uses its outrageous candy-colored premise to explore religious zealotry, the tortured legacies of military fascism, and the depths of the soul.
For ages, teddy bears have been locked in an ancestral war against their sworn enemy, the unicorns, with the promise that victory will complete the prophecy and usher in a new era. Aggressive, confident teddy bear Bluey and his sensitive, withdrawn brother Tubby could not be more different. As the rigors and humiliation of teddy bear boot camp turn to the psychedelic horrors of a combat tour in the Magic Forest, their complicated history and increasingly strained relationship will come to determine the fate of the entire war.
In select theaters and On Demand - March 10

Anime Mecha Series on YouTube - OBSOLETE

O   B  S  O   L   E   T  E
YouTube Original Anime Series

In 2014, aliens suddenly appear on earth and propose to trade consciousness-controlled multi-purpose robot ""EXOFRAMES"" for a small price. The outstanding versatility and exceedingly low cost of the alien technology is immediately put to use in industries and battlefields across the globe. Beyond pre-existing weapons, even the existing social order seemingly become obsolete.

[Source: Comicon.com] Novelist and screenwriter Gen Urobuchi has become something of a legend in anime circles. Though he is respected for the excellent character development in each of his shows, he is specifically known for the dark themes and often violent series he’s created. Series like Fate/Zero, Psycho-Pass, and Madoka Magica have cemented this reputation; proving he can bring his brand of storytelling to any genre. And it seems like next for him is a return to the world of mecha anime with YouTube Original, Obsolete.
Obsolete is set in an alternate history where aliens came to Earth in 2014, offering to give us a special technology known as “exo-frames” — robots controlled by a user’s consciousness. Both easier to pilot and cheaper than jets or tanks, these “exo-frames” quickly change the face of combat.

The series is directed by Hiroki Yamada and Seiichi Shirato, with mecha designs from Makoto Ishiwata (Gargantia, Robotics;Notes). Character designs were handled by Akihiko Yoshida (SayoAsa) and Yuya Nagai. BUEMON is the studio responsible for bringing the 3D series to life.

Obsolete premiered December 3rd on YouTube. The series being available in its entirety for YouTube Premium users, while free users will be able to watch new episodes once a week.
