Fullmetal Alchemist Live-Action Movie

FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST MOVIE
[Source: blastr] Directed by Fumihiko Sori (Ping Pong, Ashita no Joe), the movie stars Ryosuke Yamada (Assassination Classroom) as Edward Elric and will feature a CGI Alphonse Elric (Edward’s little bro) in full-body armor. Although the 30 second trailer doesn’t reveal too much of the movie yet, we do get our first look at Edward and a cool sneak peek at Alphonse's armor.

The movie filmed in Italy with a full Japanese cast (the story is set in a fictional world influenced by the European Industrial Revolution) is slated to open in Japan in the winter of 2017 (not sure when or if it will hit North America yet) and will apparently tell the whole story in one movie. We’re also told the character of Edward is being aged up from 15 in the manga to 20 years old in the movie.

Here’s a brief description of the Fullmetal Alchemist story via Anime News Network:

In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. Equipped with mechanical “auto-mail” limbs, Edward becomes a state alchemist, seeking the one thing that can restore his and his brother's bodies...the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

Published between 2001 and 2010, the manga was adapted into two anime TV series titled Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; and two full-length anime movies: Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa and Fullmetal Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos. This is the first live-action adaptation.

Dr. Who's Superhero-themed Christmas

DOCTOR WHO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
The Return of Doctor Mysterio
BBC America has debuted a first sneak peek at Doctor Who’s upcoming superhero-themed Christmas Special “The Return of Doctor Mysterio” during the BBC’s annual Children In Need telethon (in the UK).

The nearly 3-minute-long clip features Peter Capaldi — who’s obviously back in top shape as the Twelfth Doctor — as well as Matt Lucas as Nardole, who was last seen with his head separated from his body in last year’s Yuletide special “The Husbands of River Song.” Lucas is said to be a regular presence in Season 10 when the show returns in the spring of 2017. And although that’s great news in and of itself, I’m really just glad to see Nardole back in one piece! Phewwww!

The special taking place in New York City will also introduced Charity Wakefield in the role of Lois Lane a fearless reporter, and Justin Chadwick as a super-strong, bullet-proof Superman-like superhero. Here’s an official description of the Xmas episode:

The Doctor, played by Peter Capaldi, teams up with an investigative journalist, played by Charity Wakefield (Wolf Hall, The Player) and a superhero to save New York from a deadly alien threat. Matt Lucas (Bridesmaids, Little Britain) returns to the series as Nardole and Justin Chatwin (Orphan Black, Shameless) joins the cast in a guest starring role as Grant.

“The Return of Doctor Mysterio” is penned by showrunner Steven Moffat and will debut on the BBC, BBC America and Space on Christmas Day.

Official Trailer for Beauty and the Beast

c
The upcoming movie is an adaptation (and it looks like a pretty faithful one) of the House of Mouse’s 1991 Oscar-nominated Beauty and the Beast animated feature, which is itself based on Madame Leprince de Beaumont’s classic fairy tale.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. Beauty and the Beast is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within.

Beauty and the Beast will open on March 17, 2017.

Just what is ‘Justice League Action’?

JUSTICE LEAGUE ACTION
Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman lead the DC Comics Super Heroes against their most infamous foes in adventures packed with relentless thrills, fun and action. No need to wait for the good stuff to start, each eleven-minute episode jumps in with lightning-paced action and heroics. Whether defending the Earth, facing invaders from space, or battling the bizarre forces of magic, the always-rotating team of Justice League heroes, are up to any challenge.
[Source: Collider] Nothing will ever compare to the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series. But, fans were geeking out over the prospect of another cartoon coming to Cartoon Network starring DC’s pantheon of superheroes, Justice League Action. We’ve already seen some footage and heard some details from the network, but if you were expecting something more aligned with Unlimited, a batch of new clips have been unearthed to prove otherwise.
Comic Book Resources discovered some clips of Action from the YouTube channel Things I Like, and they illustrate a much more cartoony version than some of us may have been hoping for. It’s more Teen Titans Go! than Justice League Unlimited, based on the animation, the humor, and the fact that Khary Payton (King Ezekiel on The Walking Dead) reprises his voice role of Cyborg from Teen Titans Go!

There will still be tons of action, as we spotted in the trailer from Comic-Con.

The clips showcase a number of characters, including Batman, Superman, The Flash, Joker, Mongul, Toyman, Blue Beetle, and Chronos. In one, we see the heroes trying to save the Clown Prince of Gotham from Mongul before he’s thrown into outer space, while another features the team under the thrall of Toyman, as he forces them to perform a dance routine. Then there’s a face-off with Batman and Blue Beetle battling the time-manipulating Chronos after an encounter with crime boss Carmine Falcone.

Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill return as the voices of Batman and Joker, respectively, while Rachel Kimsey voices Wonder Woman, Jason J. Lewis voices Superman, James Woods voices Lex Luthor, and Josh Keaton voices Green Lantern. Other characters popping up will be Firestorm, Darkseid, Harley Quinn, Zatanna, Lobo, Hawkman, Vixen, Brainiac, Mr. Freeze, and many more.

Justice League Action will debut on November 27th with 11-minute installments. Watch the new clips below.

Live-Action Ghost in the Shell Featurette

GHOST IN THE SHELL
[Source: blastr] The featurette boasts video interviews with director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman), executive producer Michael Costigan (Prometheus) and Scarlett Johansson, who plays the role of Section 9 leader Major Motoko Kusanagi, aka The Major. What’s more, original Ghost in the Shell anime director Mamoru Oshii — who popped up for a set visit — gives his blessing to the movie, saying Scarlett Johansson’s performance as Motoko has gone “above and beyond” and calling the movie “the most gorgeous film in the series so far.” That’s some pretty high praise right there.

Also starring in Ghost in the Shell is Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones) as Motoko Kusanagi’s (The Major) right-hand man Batou, Beat Takeshi Kitano (Zatoichi) as Lt. Col. Daisuke Aramaki, and Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire) as the villain of the piece, The Laughing Man. Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara and Tuwanda Manyimo round out the cast as members of Section 9, while French star Juliette Binoche plays Dr. Ouelet. Michael Wincott (The Crow, Wesworld) will also appear in an undisclosed role.

'Young Justice' Returns!

YOUNG JUSTICE: SEASON 3
[Source: blastr] Young Justice is back.

Fans have been clamoring for years to get the acclaimed DC animated series back on the air, and those cries have finally been heard. A third season of Young Justice is officially on the way.

Warner Bros. Animation has begun production on a third season of all-new episodes, continuing the saga started back in 2010 when the series first launched. The studio promises Season 3 will bring “new twists, turns and dangerous new threats for the team.” At this point, the only thing Warner Bros. has announced is that a new season is in the works, and there’s still no word as to where (or when) these episodes might debut. Considering the show has been a solid hit for Netflix, that would certainly look to be one option.

“The affection that fans have had for ‘Young Justice,’ and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us,” Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series President Sam Register said in a statement. “We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series.”

Original producers Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman: Doomsday) and Greg Weisman (Star Wars Rebels, Gargoyles) will be returning to work on the season.

The series focuses on a younger team of DC’s heroes, led by Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad and Superboy. It was smart, well-written and action-packed. Fans did not take the cancellation well, especially considering it was a decent hit for Cartoon Network at the time. In the years since its cancellation, the series has only gotten more popular.

Genocidal Organ Anime Film New Trailer

P R O J E C T   I T O H ' S
G E N O C I D A L   O R G A N
The war on terror exploded, literally, the day Sarajevo was destroyed by a homemade nuclear device. The leading democracies have transformed into total surveillance states, and the developing world has drowned under a wave of genocides. The mysterious American John Paul seems to be behind the collapse of the world system, and it's up to intelligence agent Clavis Shepherd to track John Paul across the wreckage of civilizations and to find the true heart of darkness—a genocidal organ.

[Source: AnimeNewsNetwork] The new anime company Geno Studio is producing the film with director Shukou Murase. Geno Studio took over production of the film after the studio Manglobe, which was originally animating the film, filed for bankruptcy in September 2015. The film's staff then announced in October 2015 that the film had been delayed.

North American anime publisher FUNimation Entertainment debuted the other two Project Itoh films, The Empire of Corpses and Harmony, in select theaters in April and May, respectively. The company has also licensed Genocidal Organ.

New Wonder Woman Trailer

W O N D E R   W O M A N
[Source: blastr] Warner Bros. has unleashed a brand-new trailer for director Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. The movie stars Gal Gadot as Princess Diana, the Amazonian warrior princess first introduced in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The full trailer boasts a lot of exciting new footage, including a sneak peek at Diana’s idyllic life on the Isle of Themyscira, before Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) arrives on the shores of Paradise Island, bringing with him the Great War. There’s much to see and a lot more to digest in the trailer below -- including the fact that one of the villains (the woman in the mask) appears to be Doctor Poison (uncomfirmed as of yet), a classic Wonder Woman villain who was a member of a supervillain team called Villainy Inc. -- but what I’m seeing so far is making me very excited about the upcoming comic book movie. Although I may be a tiny bit biased, because Wonder Woman was my favorite childhood female superhero.

Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers...and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman also stars Robin Wright, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd Taghmaoui and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy. The movie will open on June 2, 2017.
