Steven Universe - End of an Era

Why Steven Universe's Ending Was
RUSHED By Cartoon Network
If you felt the ending of the original Steven Universe was fast-paced, it was. They were only giving 6 episodes to wrap up things. That's the story we're going to unpack.

The conclusion of Steven Universe proper with the Era 3 arc and Change Your Mind has left a lot of mixed reactions in the time since the animated series as a whole wrapped up with Steven Universe the Movie and Steven Universe Future. Many people felt the finale of the original series was rushed - and it was, but why? Well, thanks to the new art book End of an Era, we're able to piece together the bigger picture. So let's dive in to why the Ruby and Sapphire wedding, Reunited, ended up serving as a huge risk for Rebecca Sugar, the original "cancellation" for the show by Cartoon Network and the habits of the show's episodic nature in general. Why Steven changing the minds of Yellow Diamond, Blue Diamond and White Diamond may have felt too fast. This is why Steven Universe's Ending was RUSHED by Cartoon Network!

Steven Universe Premieres Next Month

[Source: ToonZone] Steven Universe, the latest original animated comedy series from Cartoon Network Studios, will premiere Monday, November 4 at 8:00 p.m. (ET, PT) on Cartoon Network. Steven Universe will join fan-favorites Adventure Time, Regular Show and MAD, for a powerhouse prime-time comedic lineup.

Steven Universe is about the misadventures of a boy named Steven, the ultimate “little brother” to a team of magical guardians of humanity—the Crystal Gems. Steven may not be as powerful as the Crystal Gems.  Or as savvy.  And he doesn’t have much control over his powers, which originate from the gem in his bellybutton. But that doesn’t stop him from joining Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl on their magical adventures and somehow finding a way to save the day! Steven Universe is created by Emmy® and Annie Award-nominated writer and storyboard artist Rebecca Sugar (Adventure Time). Ian Jones-Quartey (The Venture Bros., Adventure Time) serves as supervising director.

Steven (voiced by Zach Callison) is an energetic, lovable, half-Gem of a boy who is still trying to figure out his powers to become the true hero he is destined to be. With one foot in the human world and another in a magic world, sometimes his mortal quirks disrupt Gem missions and Gem magic can crash into his everyday life. But no matter what happens in a day, Steven has a smile on his face, a ukulele in his hand and a joke to crack!

The Crystal Gems, the self-appointed guardians of the universe, are as much a family as they are a team. Garnet (voiced by R&B singer-songwriter Estelle) is the mysterious and powerful leader, Pearl (voiced by Deedee Magno Hall) is the perfectionist who craves structure and logic and Amethyst (voiced by Michaela Dietz) is the prankster and loose cannon of the group.

Featured voices also include: Sinbad, Joel Hodgson, Tom Scharpling, Grace Rolek, Atticus Shaffer, Reagan Gomez, Brian Posehn, Matthew Moy and Kate Micucci along with special guest stars Aimee Mann and Nicki Minaj.

Rebecca Sugar's new show - Steven Universe

Rebecca Sugar sings a song from her new Cartoon Network show Steven Universe. She is an American artist, composer and director who is best known for being a writer and storyboard artist on the animated television series Adventure Time as well as being the creator of the series Steven Universe, which is set to debut on Cartoon Network in 2013. This will make her the first woman to create a show for Cartoon Network. She also did a few storyboards on the Sony Pictures Animation film Hotel Transylvania.
Steven Universe is a coming-of-age story told from the perspective of Steven, a chubby and happy-go-lucky boy and the youngest member of an intergalactic/ethereal team of warriors called the Crystal Gems. Together, the Crystal Gems fight and protect the Universe, while Steven strums up a catchy tune on his ukulele.

Crystal Gem Members

  • Steven – The main protagonist, youngest member of the Crystal Gems, and the only male on the team. His gem stone is unknown with a power he has yet discover. Strangely, his gem is embedded within his abdomen. He is also musically talented on the ukulele and eager to prove his abilities to the Crystal Gems. He has clever 'come-backs' for insults but often too late. He is looked after by the 3 Crystal Gem warriors as though they were his big sisters. They live together in what appears to be a half suburban house/half magic crystal palace. Steven often eagerly awaits for the Crystal Gems at the crystal portal when they are away. Steven has a fondness for food and adventure.
  • Garnet – The leader of the Crystal Gems. Her gem stone is a red garnet which is embedded into each of her hands. Activating her gem stones summons a pair of golden gauntlets of power. She has a calm and collected personality. She is physically the strongest member and is a mentor to Steven, though she hardly speaks more than a few words at a time.
  • Amethyst – A member of the Crystal Gems. Her gem stone is an amethyst which is embedded in her chest. Activating her gem stone summons an energy whip. She tends to be more fun and care-free than the other Members. Loud and energetic, Amethyst is almost always cheerful.
  • Pearl – A member of the Crystal Gems. Her gem stone is a pearl which is embedded in her forehead. Activating her gem stone summons a magic staff. Though physically dainty given her ballerina persona, she is the most outspoken of the three Crystal Gem members. She cares deeply for Steven's safety, but occasionally pokes fun of his antics.
