Walking Dead Season 4 Featurette

"It's every man for himself!"
[Source: Syfy.com] Next month, The Walking Dead will return with the second half of season four. The last time we saw the survivors, they were in complete disarray. The separation will play a huge part in the storyline for the upcoming episodes. AMC's released a featurette revealing how the characters are doing on the road.

Co-executive producer Denise Huth believes these episodes return to the core of the show. It's about the loss of family and, in some cases, humanity. "That's such a theme of the show over and over and over again," she said. "Whenever you create a home it will not last long. It will always change and you will suffer more loss. What will you do?"

Everyone's been separated, and most of them are on foot. They're in a weakened state, and we'll see them at their most vulnerable. One thing we found interesting about this video are the pairings, or should we say lack thereof. In the midseason finale, it looked as if everyone got into smaller groups and left. But in the featurette a lot of people are alone. Maggie, Michonne, Daryl, etc.

The producers also pose the question "Will they or won't they cross paths?"

Celebrating 40 Years of Dungeons & Dragons

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

[Source: Blastr.com] Who could have imagined the journey that tabletop gaming would take when Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson came together back in 1974? These two men, also known as the creators of Dungeons & Dragons, knew they'd made something they loved, but they couldn't have known how far that love would spread.

But if you know anything of the history of Dungeons & Dragons, then you know it's not exactly a tale of two heroes who got their happy ending. And this new documentary, The Great Kingdom, seems very intent upon revealing some of the ups, downs and difficult truths behind how D&D became so successful, and the sacrifices that were made toward that end.

While the tale itself may not be pretty, there can be no denying that the look of the doc itself is pretty darn gorgeous.

First look at Peter Capaldi's Doctor in costume!

Peter Capaldi in "In the Loop" (2009)
The Doctor has a new look as Peter Capaldi’s era officially begins. In a picture released today by the BBC, Capaldi can be seen in the costume that will define his time as the Twelfth Time Lord in one of TV’s biggest roles. Sporting a dark blue Crombie coat with red lining, dark blue trousers, a white shirt as well as black Dr. Marten shoes, the look was created by Doctor Who costume designer Howard Burden.

Commenting on his costume, Peter Capaldi said: “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent Rebel Time Lord.” While lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat added: “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”

Filming for episode one of series 8 began earlier this month, after 10.2 million tuned-in on Christmas Day to get their first much-anticipated glimpse of Capaldi’s Doctor. Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, commented: “Peter Capaldi’s Doctor is officially recorded in history today with the unveiling of his new costume. It’s sharp, smart and stylish – The Twelfth Time Lord means business."

ANIME DESCRIPTIONS ARE BELOW -- This will be our FIRST club meeting of the year! --

10:15 - 11:30    My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU - Episodes 11-13 (end)
Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] The story follows loners, the pragmatic Hachiman Hikigaya and beautiful Yukino Yukinoshita who despite their varying personalities and ideals, offer help and advice to others as part of their school's Service Club. It largely depicts various social situations faced by teens in a high school setting and the psychology driving their interactions.
Episode 11 "Thus, The Curtain Of Each Stage Rises, The Festival Reaches Its Climax": After school, Hachiman and Yui visit Yukino to check up on her. Yui expresses a desire for her to rely on them more, which she confirms that she will at some point. Afterwards, Hachiman decides to alter the committee's mindset instead of conforming which they had been using as an excuse to escape their duties. The following day, the committee tries to decide on a theme for the festival. Hachiman indirectly teases Minami's suggestion, and counters with his own, which involves using wordplay on the Japanese Kanji for "human" which describes an analogy for half of the committee members slacking off from their duties, while relying on the rest and hence victimizing them. This gets Hachiman contemptuous looks from the members, but Yukino is able to see the method to his words, that allowed everyone to see their excuses for not working their hardest. The next day, the committee comes out in force with Yukino continuing to take charge. Haruno explains how Hachiman's stunt made him an enemy of the committee and if he works harder, that would motivate everyone else to unite and surpass him, which is fortified by Yukino when she assigns him an unbearable amount of work to get through. As the festival starts, Minami falters in her opening speech with a bit of stage fright. Eventually Hachiman goes to oversee Hina's play which turns out to be a huge hit. Afterwards, while taking a break, Yui brings Hachiman lunch and they discuss how to best get closer to Yukino. After they eat, Hachiman misreads the situation and tries to pay Yui back with money for the food, but Yui indirectly asks Hachiman out, which he awkwardly realizes. Meanwhile, depressed with her inability to do anything meaningful for the festival, Minami locks herself in the bathroom
Episode 12 "Thus, His and Her and Her Mistaken Youth Continues": Soubu High's Cultural Festival continues and Hachiman is stuck carrying out his duty as a committee member by documenting the day's events on film. Komachi shows up and is surprised to find her brother actually taking a bit of responsibility. As the festival enters its last stages, Haruno entertains the audience with a full orchestra performance. Soon enough, as the closing ceremony approaches, Meguri reports that Minami is missing in action. Since she is needed to deliver the closing speech, the group decides to stall for time while Hachiman searches the campus for her. Hachiman eventually finds Minami atop the laboratory roof and realizes she is sulking because Yukino stole the spotlight away from her, despite asking for her help. Hayato and Minami's clique show up to get her, although she refuses to budge. Seeing no other alternative, Hachiman craftily uses reverse psychology combined with Minami's true social reality to guilt her into accepting her duty; using a tone which enrages Hayato. Afterwards, the festival ends as Yui, Yukino, Haruno and Shizuka give their extra musical performance followed by Minami's closing speech. Everyone shows mixed reactions on Hachiman's course of action but Shizuka compliments him for always finding ways to rescue people from their problems, but laments that it breaks her heart since he always sacrifices himself to do so. That evening, at the Service Club room, Hachiman and Yukino discuss how far they've come to know each other, with Yukino hinting that they've become friends. Yui eventually shows up at the club to invite them for an after party hosted by Hayato to celebrate the festival's success. Hachiman ends by pondering that while there aren't any second chances in life, his and Yukino's ideals on society may continue to be seen as deviances.
Episode 13 "Therefore, Their Festival Is Not Over Yet": In medias res, Soubu High School holds a Sports Festival and while walking around, Hachiman tries to justify his reasoning for not participating in any events by his own interpretation of a speech given by Pierre de Coubertin. Some time after the Cultural Festival, the Service Club receives an email asking for help in planning the upcoming Sports Festival. While the club discuss their ill experiences at the last Sports Festival, Meguri Shiromeguri enters the club room and reveals that she had made the request, which they accept. At the sports committee meeting, while everyone brainstorms ideas for events, Shizuka shoots them all down, on account that people have become more socially sensitive over what an event entails. Eventually Hachiman suggests that they call in Yoshiteru and Hina who are better with creative work and soon enough, get some ideas to work on. As the festival continues, the white team takes the lead over the red team thanks to Hayato's athletics. As the girl's main event gets underway, which was designed based on the historical Battle of Kōnodai by Yoshiteru, Yukino is able to help the red team catch up. Finally for the last boys' pole drop event, Hachiman uses Yoshiteru to create a distraction while he stealthily approaches the white team's pole by disguising himself has a white player using some bandages. Although he is stopped by Hayato, Hachiman reveals his double feint and at that moment has Yoshiteru charge at the pole and win the event and supposedly the festival. The next day at the Service Club Yukino reveals that the red team was disqualified because Hachiman's deception was akin to cheating, but they resolve to participate the next year. As things return to normal, Hachiman concludes by pondering that they will make the most of their high school lives until it reaches an end.

11:30 - 11:55     Nagi no Asukara (Episode 3)
Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] Long ago, human civilization had lived on the oceanfloor. However, there were many humans who wanted to live above the surface and they moved to land creating a fundamental separation between the two. After their school closes down, four middle school students from the sealand have to go to school on the mainland. This is about their lives as they adjust to a new environment and the relationships with each other.
Episode 3 "The Sea's Lagend": As Akari is scolded by her father for disobeying the village's rules, Hikari reminisces about how she always took care of him after their mother's death, and is later informed by Akari that she decided to break up with her boyfriend. The next day, Hikari decides to confront the man and follows him up to Tsumugu's house where he is stopped by Tsumugu's grandfather, who explains to them that aside from the bad mood with the inhabitants of the surface, people from the village are not allowed to marry those from outside as their children will be born without ena. The children become unable to survive underwater and thus the former inhabitants are forced to leave Shioshishio to raise them. During so, Hikari discovers that Tsumugu's grandfather also came from the village. On the next day, Hikari stops being hostile to Tsumugu and he becomes friends with the rest of the group after they finally complete the offering together. Knowing how much she is suffering with their separation, Hikari decides to make amends with Akari's boyfriend, but is stopped by the two girls who fought him before and one of them reveals that said man is her father.

11:55 - 12:45    Kyokai no Kanata [Beyond the Boundary] (Episodes 7-8)
Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] One day high-school student Akihito Kanbara instinctively goes to save his fellow schoolmate, Mirai Kuriyama from committing suicide. Following his pleads however, Mirai suddenly stabs Akihito with a sword formed out of her own blood and is shocked to discover that Akihito is an immortal "half-youmu"—the offspring of a supernatural creature called a youmu and a human. After learning that Mirai is a Spirit World Warrior and the last surviving member of her spirit hunting clan, their lives become intertwined as Akihito seeks to help Mirai gain the confidence to kill youmu so that she may stop attempting to kill him as practice.
Episode 7 "Color of Clouds": Sakura recalls Yui's warning of the Hollow Shadow's power while hunting an amphibious youmu. The next day, Shizuku interrupts the Literary Club's usual theatrics to inform them of Sakura's impending transfer to their high school, however Mirai decides not to intervene in the matter. That evening Akihito goes to Sakura's aid when she passes out from fighting a flying youmu and takes her home to tend to her wounds. Here, Sakura explains that her spear grows stronger by devouring youmu stones and that a mysterious man gave it to her, which she may keep on the condition that she kills Mirai. At that instant, Mirai unexpectedly drops by to return Akihito's phone, forcing the latter to reveal Sakura when Mirai spirals out of control upon noticing the second pair of shoes at his doorstep. The next day, Sakura has a successful transfer despite Akihito's caution. That afternoon, Mirai and Sakura meet at a market alley to settle their score and begin their inevitable battle. Drawing Sakura into the sewers, Mirai explains her realization of revenge being the wrong path and her intention to live for the sake of the Inami sisters. This causes Sakura to lose her fighting resolve at which point the spear attempts to devour her before Mirai stops it. In the aftermath, Sakura admits having lost sight of herself at the chime of Yui's bell necklace; clouding her feelings for Mirai, which she accepts and both reconcile. With the spear now having devoured enough youmu, Miroku collects it with the intention of retrieving the Hollow Shadow's stone. Finally, Izumi and Mitsuki witness the beginning of a phenomenon called the Calm as it spreads through Nagatsuki City—foreshadowing something known as Beyond the Boundary.
Episode 8 "Calming Gold": Mirai starts bringing bonsai to the Literary Club meetings and Akihito deduces her gardening hobby to be the true culprit behind her constant financial problems. Having gotten her license back, Mirai gets information from Ayaka about a valuable fruit-type youmu that lurks on their school roof and Mirai immediately runs off without waiting for Ayaka to explain its characteristics. Afterwards, Akihito arrives too late to stop Mirai from confronting the youmu and both become drenched in a yellow noxious-smelling liquid as part of the youmu's defense. That evening, Ai explains that the youmu gets easily distracted by human girls and thus a two-person team would be needed to defeat it, hence Akihito and Mirai pressure Mitsuki into helping. The following day, Mirai showcases some seductive poses in front of the youmu while Mitsuki approaches from behind, however that plan quickly fails and the youmu marks Mitsuki in a much more horrendous pink liquid. As the group contemplates giving up, Hiroomi explains that the last time the youmu was killed, a special song was used to distract it. However, that plan also fails when Mirai turns out to be a terrible singer. As the entire group showers again that day, everyone decides to seek revenge against the youmu for constantly giving them a horrible stink, and hence spend the next week practicing the words and dance choreography for the song. Akihito, Mirai, Mitsuki, Hiroomi and Ai then show off the results of their training and perform the song perfectly in front of the youmu and lowering its guard. When the performance ends however, the group horrifically realize their failure of assigning someone to kill the youmu—at which point it explodes and covers the entire roof in a torrent of yellow liquid.

12:45 - 1:35     Kill la Kill (episodes 6-7)
Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] Kill la Kill is set at Honnouji Academy (本能字学園 Honnōji Gakuen), a fictional high school in post-apocalyptic Japan that is dominated by its fearsome student council, led by Satsuki Kiryuin. The council members wear special uniforms called Goku Uniforms (極制服 Goku Seifuku) that grant them superhuman abilities, which they use to oppress the rest of the school's students and staff. Ryuko Matoi, a student wielding half a scissor-shaped longsword, transfers to Honnouji Academy in search of the owner of the other half of the scissor blade, the person who killed her father. Defeated by the council after interrogating Satsuki over the killer's identity and whereabouts, Ryuko comes across a sentient sailor uniform she names Senketsu, who puts himself on Ryuko. Using Senketsu's special abilities, Ryuko stands up against Satsuki and her henchmen, the Four Elites, to liberate Honnouji Academy from their iron grip and find out the truth behind her father's murder.
Episode 6  "Don't Toy With Me on a Whim": After learning of his connection with Tsumugu, Ryuko tries to press Aikuro for more information, but does not get much outside of his organization's name, Nudist Beach. Meanwhile, another of the Elite Four, Uzu Sanageyama, gets permission from Satsuki to fight against Ryuko himself. The next day, Uzu challenges Ryuko, facing against her in his Three-Star Goku Uniform, Blade Regalia. He has the advantage due to his fast eyesight reading all of Ryuko's moves, but Ryuko overcomes this by using a part of her uniform to block Uzu's vision, allowing her to defeat him and destroy his uniform. Not wanting to give up, Uzu undergoes a drastic operation to sew his eyes shut, and challenges Ryuko again, this time using his other senses to predict her moves and completely overwhelm her. However, before Uzu can deliver the final blow, his Goku Uniform overheats due to him being more powerful than it can handle, giving Ryuko the opportunity to escape.
Episode 7  "A Loser I Can't Hate": Hearing about how many students have been starting their own clubs in order to become eligible to get better uniforms, and thus better living rights, Ryuko decides to start her own Fight Club, assigning Mako as the club president to handle all the paperwork and meetings. As Ryuko increases the club's reputation by defeating other club presidents, Mako manages to earn a One-Star Goku Uniform, upgrading the Mankanshoku family to a better apartment. Mako's determination to preserve her family's newfound happiness moves the family up to an even more luxurious lifestyle. However, as Mako becomes more serious about her duties as club president and the other family members indulge in their wealth, Ryuko starts to feel lonely as the family finds less time to spend together. Just as Ryuko decides to resign from the Fight Club, Satsuki gives Mako a Two-Star Goku Uniform, telling her to defeat Ryuko if she wants to keep her life of luxury. Ryuko decides to take the brunt of Mako's attacks, which leads to Mako eventually realizing the error of her ways, deciding to disband the Fight Club and return to her life in the slums. Meanwhile, Satuski reveals that by using Ryuko to purge the weaker clubs, she will restructure the student council by holding a snap election.

2:15 - 3:05    Attack on Titan 24-25 (end)
Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] In an alternative, middle-ages setup, the human population is dwindling in numbers. With the advent of Titans, giant humanoid creatures that attack and devour any human on sight, what remains of civilization is protected by three concentric walls, hundreds of kilometers long and around fifty meters tall, called Wall Maria (the outermost wall), Wall Rose and Wall Sina (the innermost wall housing the capital). All efforts to expand the human territory beyond the walls have failed so far, but the citizens inside remained safe for a hundred years, until two unusual Titans, a colossal one, sixty meter tall and another one, covered with a hardened shell, break through Wall Maria, bringing the other Titans inside, forcing mankind to once again face its greatest threat to ensure its survival. The series follows the story of Eren Jeager, a young boy whose father disappears after his mother is killed during the fall of Wall Maria. Years later he enlists into the army, accompanied by his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman and their childhood friend Armin Arlelt. When the Titans threaten to break further through Wall Rose, Eren discovers that he possesses the ability to temporarily transform himself into a Titan. Seen as a threat by some, and a ray of hope by others, Eren joins his companions in a war to protect what still remains of mankind, making use of his newfound power while looking for answers to the mysteries surrounding the Titans, the walls, and his own existence.
Episode 24  "Mercy: Raid on Stohess District, Part 2": Days before Eren is escorted to the capital, Erwin and Armin reveal to him they have a plan to capture the person they believe is the Female Titan and is shocked when they tell him it is Annie. Back in the present, Eren, Armin and Mikasa manage to escape a tunnel collapse while being hunted by the Female Titan. Eren tries to transform but is unable to which Mikasa suspects his feelings for Annie are preventing him. When another tunnel collapse traps Eren, Mikasa and Armin distract the Female Titan away from Eren. Meanwhile, Commander Nile Dawk of the Military Police demands an explanation from Erwin on what is happening as his men hold him at gunpoint. As Mikasa and the rest of the Recon Corps distract and try to capture the Female Titan, Armin and Jean attempt to free Eren from the rubble. Armin tells Eren he has to fight Annie as anyone who refuses to sacrifice anything can never change anything. As Eren thinks about what Armin said, he remembers his hatred for the Titan who killed his mother. Eren finally transforms into the Rogue Titan and charges at the Female Titan in rage.
Episode 25  "Wall: Raid on Stohess District, Part 3": Eren and Annie fight each other as Titans throughout Stohess, causing destruction and civilian deaths while Hange orders her men to stand by before they capture Annie. Meanwhile, Erwin tells Nile he will accept responsibility for the damage his plan has caused, for which Nile has Erwin arrested while the Military Police help evacuate the civilians. After exchanging several blows, a berserk Eren completely overpowers Annie who attempts to escape by climbing up Wall Sina. However, Mikasa cuts off Annie's Titan fingers, sending her falling. As Annie falls, she remembers her father asking for forgiveness, telling her to hate the world and ask her to promise him she will come back home. When it appears Eren is about to eat Annie, he stops once he sees her crying, and her body starts encasing itself in crystal. As Eren recuperates, he admits to Mikasa, Jean, and Armin that he allowed Annie to get herself encased. As Jean and Armin wonder if sacrificing their humanity to defeat the Titans is worth the price, Erwin attends a government inquiry. Erwin reveals he kept his plans secret to prevent leaks. He further explains that despite the deaths and casualties of his plan and how they cannot get any information from Annie now that she is encased, she is proof there are humans that can turn into Titans living within the walls and he plans to find and use them to launch a counterattack against the Titans. In the end, Erwin is acquitted, Eren stays with the Recon Corps, Annie is put under the Corps' custody and the rest of the 104th Top Trainees go on their different missions. In the epilogue, a piece of Wall Sina falls, revealing the face of a Titan within the wall.

3:05 - 3:55    Coppelion (Episode 6-7)
Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] In 2016, a catastrophe occurs after a nuclear meltdown from the nearby Odaiba nuclear power plant contaminates Tokyo, forcing the government to order its citizens to evacuate. 20 years later, Tokyo has become a ghost town due to the high levels of radiation which the government has banned entry for anyone. When a distress signal is received from Tokyo, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force dispatches 3 teenage girls from the Dispatch 3 Special Force Coppelion. Due to genetic engineering, the Coppelions are immune to radiation while also possessing special skills. Thus the Coppelions journey to the ruined capital to find survivors.
Episode 6 "Planet": As Haruto heads to Ibara's location, Aoi gets captured by the Commander of the Ghosts, Kunikida. Commander Kunikida demand that the Coppelions join them or they will never see Aoi again. Ibara realizes the Ghosts attacked the JAXA survivors in order to lure the Coppelions in a trap to capture them. Ibara and Oyakata heads to the 1st Division base at a park to rescue Aoi where she manages to hold Kunikida at gun point and orders him to release Aoi. Unfazed, the Commander dares Ibara to shoot him which she can't, and his troops beat her. Ibara is saved when Haruto arrives on his AMV and retrieves her while he is forced to leave Aoi behind. As Ibara regains consciousness, she and Haruto talk about their past. Thanks to a transmitter he placed on Aoi earlier, Ibara, Haruto, Gennai and Oyakata locate Aoi and the Ghosts moving to another base. With the Ghosts stopping at a nearby water treatment plant to retrieve barrels of radioactive waste, Ibara and Haruto begin their plan to rescue Aoi while Gennai and Oyakata distract the troops. However, Ibara is shocked to learn that Haruto and the Mop-Up Team were trained to kill people which she is against. Despite Haruto killing some troops, Ibara hopes to rescue Aoi without killing anyone but is caught by Kunikida. To her shock, she learns the 1st Division bodies have mutated and adapted to living in the radiation, hence they do not fear dying. Ibara tells him that she can help him but Kunikida orders one of his tanks to shoot them. Aoi manages to escape but she, Haruto, Gennai and Oyakata find Ibara heavily injured.
Episode 7 "Haruto": Haruto and Aoi manage to resuscitate Ibara using a defibrillator and bring her back to the Planet as Ibara is suffering blood loss due to a shrapnel wound. Taeko safely removes the shrapnel and Haruto donates his blood to Ibara as they both have the same blood type. Aoi, blaming herself for Ibara's injuries, locks herself in a storage room. Meanwhile, Haruto interrogates the Commander of the Ghosts who reveals that they are collecting radioactive wastes and putting it all in the Sarcophagus and will explode it, hoping to create a nuclear fallout for the whole country as revenge against the government for abandoning them, which is why they want the Coppelions since the radiations levels at the Sarcophagus are too high. Despite the Coppelions' warnings to Onihei, the government refuses to act while the expo is ongoing, fearing the news will make the Prime Minister lose face to the international community. When Ibuki reveals the baby is coming and the government won't send a medical specialist to deliver the baby until the expo's end, the group heads to a hospital in the center of the capital while Aoi and the Planet are left under care by the robotic caretaker Mr Nonsense. While still keeping an eye on the Commander, Haruto tries to contact his teammates, the Ozu Sisters but to no avail. However, the Ozu Sisters appear before Ibara and her entourage after trapping them using barrels of radioactive waste to stop their truck.
