They unexpectedly meet when Chitoge hops a wall and knees Raku in the face. After she runs off, Raku realizes he has lost his locket which was given to him by his childhood sweetheart with whom he made a secret promise. After discovering Chitoge is a new transfer student in his class, he forces her to help him look for the locket. During the search, they begin to dislike each other. Upon returning home, Raku learns that the Shuei-Gumi and Beehive gangs have agreed to settle their feud by pairing their leaders' children. Raku learns that his girlfriend-to-be is none other than Chitoge. For the next three years, they must pretend to be in a relationship to maintain peace between the gangs. This turns out to be quite a challenging task, not only because of their hatred for one another, but also because Raku has a crush on another schoolmate, Kosaki Onodera, whom he secretly wishes was the girl who bears the key to his locket. Various developments complicate the situation, including Chitoge's over-protective bodyguard, a female hitman, a girl who claims to be Raku's fiancée, and the existence of multiple keys.

Later, the Vers Empire declared war on Earth, and in 1999, a battle on the Moon's surface caused the hypergate to explode, shattering the Moon and scattering remnants into a debris belt around the planet. Cut off from Mars, the remnants of the Vers Empire established several massive orbital space stations within the debris belt and a ceasefire was established. 15 years later, in 2014, an attack on the Vers princess during a peace mission causes the Empire to launch a new attack on Earth, this time determined to conquer it once and for all.

Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] Parasyte centers around a 17-year-old teen named Shinichi Izumi, who lives with his mother and father in a quiet neighborhood in Tokyo. One night, worm-like aliens called Parasites invade Earth, taking over the brains of human hosts by entering through their ears or noses. One Parasite attempts to crawl into Shinichi's ear while he sleeps, but fails as Shinichi is wearing headphones, and enters his body by burrowing into his arm instead. In the Japanese version, it takes over his right hand and is named Migi, after the Japanese word for 'right'; Tokyopop's version, in which the images are flipped horizontally, has the Parasite take over Shinichi's left hand and it is named Lefty. Because Shinichi was able to prevent Migi from travelling further up into his brain, both beings retain their separate intellect and personality. As the duo encounter other Parasites, they capitalize on their strange situation and gradually form a strong bond, working together to survive. This gives them an edge in battling other Parasites who frequently attack the pair upon realization that Shinichi's human brain is still intact. Shinichi feels compelled to fight other Parasites, who devour humans as food, while enlisting Migi's help.

3:05 - 4:46    Giovanni's Island [Feature Presentation]

Inspired by true events.

Godzilla Returns to Japanese Studios

GODZILLA RETURNS TO JAPAN!
[Source: Yahoo!News] TOKYO (AP) — Godzilla is stomping back. And this time, it's Made in Japan, like the original.

The announcement this week from Japanese film studio Toho comes after the success earlier this year of the Hollywood Godzilla, directed by Gareth Edwards, which grossed more than $500 million worldwide.

Toho said in 2004 it had made its last Godzilla film, the 28th in the series centered on the irradiated monster, which first stomped into the world in 1954.

Over the years, Godzilla movies fell out of favor even among Japanese fans.

But the latest Hollywood Godzilla, complete with spikes down its back and a terrifying roar, received relatively favorable reviews in Japan, unlike the 1998 Hollywood Godzilla, directed by Roland Emmerich, which purist fans hated.

Toho said recent innovations in computer-graphics technology were behind its decision to revive Godzilla.
This photo taken from a scene of the 1954 film "Godzilla" and provided by Toho Co.
The Toho Godzilla is set for release in 2016, before Edwards releases his sequel for Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers in 2018.

Toho has not yet picked a director for the upcoming reboot.

The Tokyo-based company, which owns the rights for Godzilla, declined to say whether it would bring back the man-in-a-rubber suit behind the original Godzilla or rely on computer graphics — or have both.

Japanese movies such as Toho's latest, "Parasyte," about alien creatures taking over human bodies, utilize sophisticated computer-graphics technology although it may be hard for Toho to match Hollywood's dazzle.

The widely praised original black-and-white "Godzilla" was directed by Ishiro Honda.

Other directors took over for the subsequent Japanese works, which at times became absurdly comical, featuring battles with manga-like, or cartoonish, monsters.

Godzilla, or "gojira," as the Japanese say it — a combination of the words for "whale" and "gorilla" — was a mutation that emerged from the Pacific because of nuclear testing.

The giant reptilian creature has crushed just about every famous building in Japan including Tokyo Tower and the Parliament building.

Japan, the only nation in the world to suffer atomic bombings, has a soft spot for the fire-breathing creature as representing the suffering unleashed by nuclear weapons.

SNL Star Wars Parody

Saturday Night Live‘s spoofy video take on the recently released teaser trailer for the next Star Wars arrived from a galaxy long, long ago, then landed a few good blows on the Disney juggernaut coming in a year.
It landed a few very good, almost poignant shots at what the original series’ aging heroes are really up to these days, including VCR angst with R2D2, early-bird specials at the cantina and a walker made of light sabers (that has to hurt).

TIME TRAP - Short Film

T I M E   T R A P
There is no shortage of awesome short films out there these days, but this is one of the most entertaining and creative sci-fi minis we’ve seen in a while.

Writer and director Michael Shanks (not to be confused with the Stargate SG-1 star of the same name) has released his 7+ minute short Time Trap, which follows a bizarre robot-human-alien guy as he crash-lands on a post-apocalyptic Earth and has to repair his ship to get back on his way.

His tool of choice to replace the two critical elements damaged during the crash? A nifty time-travel device that essentially creates a “time bubble” in and out of which he can travel to grab components. It’s an excellent visual trick, especially for an indie short, and makes for one heck of a fun story.

Overall, the effects and style are all top-notch. The scenes are well-framed, the effects look great, and we just love the low-tech, almost Red Dwarf-esque style of the ship’s internals.

Trailer for Terminator: Genisys

The rules have been reset in first throwback trailer for Terminator: Genisys
[Source: blastr.com] Clocking in as the fifth film in what has sadly become a tired franchise, Genisys (despite the silly title) looks like it’s shaping up to be a nice combo of old and new concepts from across the franchise spectrum. We have future action — akin to Terminator: Salvation — along with some scenes taken straight from the iconic Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day. It’s a nice mix on display.
There are also more than a few nods to the original two films, and some of the set pieces definitely have that 1990s action flick vibe that the past few installments have sorely lacked. We also get some throwback baddies, with a young T-800 and a new-look T-1000 all on display to wreak havoc for the team. Oh, and the future John Connor face scars. The scars.

Stephen Colbert explains the new lightsaber design

About that new lightsaber...
[Source: blastr.com] Stephen Colbert has some ultra-nerdy thoughts on the new lightsaber in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

As soon as the first trailer for the first Star Wars film of the Disney era hit last Friday, the Internet had a lot to talk about. Who was that mysterious voice (mystery solved)? Where are those X-wings heading? What's with that new rolling droid? And, of course, is the new lightsaber design showcased by what looks to be one of the film's villains a good idea or an over-the-top impracticality?

For many fans, the lightsaber was a cool new twist on a classic weapon, and a way to distinguish the Dark Side of The Force Awakens from all the red-lightsabered Sith lords who've come before. For others, though, it was a garish new take on a weapon that didn't need any new finesse, as well as a quick way to getting a thumb hacked off. In true Star Wars fashion, the lightsaber debate is still raging on, and last night Comedy Central host and supernerd Stephen Colbert thought it was time to lend his voice to the issue.

Colbert's flights of nerd fancy on his show The Colbert Report have become almost as famous as the exaggerated character he plays while hosting the series, particularly due to his seemingly infinite knowledge of all things Middle-earth. Colbert's also a Star Wars fan, though, and on last night's show -- after telling a jealousy-inducing story about how he got to see the original Star Wars at a special sneak preview two weeks before it opened back in 1977 -- he came to the defense of that new lightsaber and its crossguard design.

Specifically, Colbert responds to fan claims that the crossguard doesn't work because another lightsaber can just slice through the crossguard and hit your hand. His response? That's not true, because those three beams are really all one, fragmented into three directions.
"The metal hilts are just casings around the little beams to protect your hand," Colbert said. "Even if someone slices through the metal they're gonna hit the beam right there. Any Padawan knows that! That's science."
Check out Colbert's full defense of the weapon, complete with a handy diagram, in the video below.
