Comic and Manga Graphic Novel Rankings for This Week

New York Times Bestsellers in Graphic Novels

By Chris Beveridge (Source: Mania.com)

The latest from the New York Times Bestsellers lists have arrived and the rankings of what's moving in the retail market when it comes to comics and manga as well as hardcovers is revealed. Click the link above to see the full breakdowns of the top ten of each particular segment.

Within the realm of the hardcover graphic novel, there aren't too many changes overall with only The Wonderful Wizard of Oz falling off the top five from last week while the next installment of The Stand slides into the number two spot. Otherwise it's just some mild movement here in an otherwise rather unchanging listing.

  1. THE BOOK OF GENESIS: ILLUSTRATED, by R. Crumb. (W.W. Norton & Co., $24.95.)
  2. THE STAND: AMERICAN NIGHTMARES, by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Mike Perkins. (Marvel Entertainment, $24.95.)
  3. BATMAN: BATTLE FOR THE COWL, by Tony Daniel. (DC Comics, $19.99.)
  4. THE STAND: CAPTAIN TRIPS, by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Mike Perkins. (Marvel Entertainment, $24.99.)
  5. WOLVERINE: OLD MAN LOGAN, by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven. (Marvel Entertainment, $34.99.)

With the softcover graphic novels, things move a little differently as the latest volume of the Walking Dead is riding the buzz wave by landing in at number one. This just shifts the list around underneath it a bit with the title Chew Vol. 1 disappearing from the top five in favor of the new Walking Dead title.

  1. THE WALKING DEAD, VOL. 11, by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard. (Image Comics, $14.99.)
  2. WATCHMEN, by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. (DC Comics, $19.99.)
  3. MAUS: A SURVIVOR’S TALE, VOL. 1, by Art Spiegelman. (Pantheon, $14.95.)
  4. WALKING DEAD, VOL. 1, by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore. (Image Comics, $14.99.)
  5. THE ZOMBIE SURVIVAL GUIDE: RECORDED ATTACKS, by Max Brooks. (Three Rivers Press, $17.00.)

Yen Press is loving this week as their new title Black Butler takes the top honors on the chart while the previous number one drops down to number four. Del Rey gets onto the top five this week with two new titles while Viz Media cedes two spaces but keeps a couple for a new release with Fullmetal Alchemist and Yu-Gi-Oh shows some staying power.

  1. BLACK BUTLER, VOL. 1, by Yana Toboso. (Yen Press, $10.99.)
  2. TSUBASA: RESERVOIR CHRONICLE, VOL. 25, by Clamp. (Del Rey, $10.99.)
  3. FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST, VOL. 22, by Hiromu Arakawa. (VIZ Media, $9.99.)
  4. THE YU-GI-OH! GX 4, VOL. 4, by Naoyuki Kageyama and Kazuki Takahashi. (VIZ Media, $9.99.)
  5. SHUGO CHARA!, VOL. 8, by Peach-Pit. (Del Rey, $10.99.)
