Han Shot First Scene Changed Again for Disney+

GREEDO: "Mcklunky!"
[Source: Gizmodo] Just when fans though a brand new live-action Star Wars TV show would be the biggest headline with the launch of Disney+, a historical change is there to challenge for the title.

Yes, it’s true. The Han shot first scene has been altered. Again. And this time, it’s kind of hilarious.

Yes, Greedo screams something in Rodese—the Rodian language, which itself has similarities to the Huttese spoken by Jabba and other alien characters in the trilogy—that sounds like “Makunke!” or “Maclunky!” before shooting now as if to warn Han what’s about to come. No one ever talked after Han said, “I bet you have” before.

The question you’re asking is “Why?” And we don’t know. What we do know is “How.” According to Vanity Fair, and confirmed by io9 via Lucasfilm, George Lucas himself made this change “at least seven years ago” before Disney acquired the company. In that timeframe, we believe that change was made when the director converted the film to 4K for a planned 3D release which never happened. But, the 4K version remained, with this change, and now that’s the one on Disney+.

Since this was a Lucas change, odds are we’ll never know exactly why he did it.

Han Solo Film Loses Directors

“Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project,"
said a statement from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller.

[Source: HollywoodReporter] Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are no longer directing the Han Solo Star Wars spinoff.

"Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are talented filmmakers who have assembled an incredible cast and crew, but it’s become clear that we had different creative visions on this film, and we’ve decided to part ways. A new director will be announced soon," Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, said Tuesday in a statement.

"Unfortunately, our vision and process weren’t aligned with our partners on this project," a statement from Lord and Miller read. "We normally aren’t fans of the phrase 'creative differences' but for once this cliché is true. We are really proud of the amazing and world-class work of our cast and crew."

Lord and Miller, helmers of The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street and its sequel 22 Jump Street, signed on to direct the Star Wars stand-alone in July 2015. The film features Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, while Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Donald Glover also star.

The pic has been shooting in London since February. Sources say there are several weeks left on the shoot (who will be helming those is currently under wraps), with reshoots scheduled for later this summer.

The release date of May 25, 2018, remains unchanged.

This isn't the first Star Wars film to face a director issue. On Rogue One, which was helmed by Gareth Edwards, Tony Gilroy was brought in to rewrite and help oversee extensive reshoots.

The issue of "creative differences" has been the cause of several director exits over the past couple years on studio tentpoles. Tim Miller left Fox's sequel Deadpool 2; Rick Famuyiwa left Warner Bros. and DC's The Flash; and Michelle MacLaren left Wonder Woman (which was then directed by Patty Jenkins, who had previously exited Thor 2).

'Young Han Solo' Cast Photo

HAN SOLO PREQUEL
[Source: SyfyWire] Work is officially underway on Disney's new Han Solo prequel, and we have a shot of the cast hanging out in the Millennium Falcon to prove it.

The spinoff project will focus on the early days of Han and Chewbacca in the years before Star Wars: A New Hope, and will also feature their early meetings with Han's pal Lando Calrissian.

Little is known about the plot, though Woody Harrelson will apparently be playing Han's mentor, while Emilia Clarke will be the female lead (possibly a love interest) and Phoebe Waller-Bridge might be playing a female droid. Story-wise, they've kept it all under wraps for now.

The first pic from the set shows clockwise from bottom left: co-director Christopher Miller, stars Woody Harrelson, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Emilia Clarke, Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca, co-director Phil Lord and Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian).
Glover and Ehrenreich are talented guys, but they also have some big shoes to fill. It'll be interesting to see how this comes together.

The Han Solo film is currently scheduled for May 25, 2018.
