Childhood friends Ran, Kouki, and Shuuta, who were born and raised there, have different family backgrounds, hobbies, and personalities, but always hung out together. However, their relationship changes drastically in the wake of a certain incident. At the first anniversary memorial of the incident, the three friends happen to meet again and their phones begin to ring simultaneously. The phone call is from a supposedly dead friend, urging them to "choose the future." The three will try to protect their beloved 24th Ward and the future of its people in their own ways.

When a young girl, gifted with an odd eye that allows her to see the future, foolishly disrespects the clan, her father pays the price of her crime with his life. Soon after, as fate would have it, Taira no Shigemori—the eldest son of the clan leader—stumbles upon the same unfortunate girl, who now calls herself "Biwa." Biwa informs him that the downfall of the Heike is imminent. After learning of the great injustice Biwa suffered at the Heike's hands, Shigemori vows to take her in and care for her rather than let her be killed. In an era of rising military tension, the Heike are in the midst of a cunning struggle for power, and bloodstained war is on the horizon. Shigemori, whose eyes allow him to see spirits of the dead, is both anxious and hopeful to prevent his clan's demise. Biwa, however, is reluctant to reveal the future to him and must adapt to her new life filled with both happiness and sorrow in this pivotal chapter in Japanese history.

Fine, Queen of the Vampires, frequently disregards her duties to attend lavish parties. In secret, Fine is ill from refusing to drink blood and is depressed. Nobara discovers the music box and flies into a rage, causing Momo to run away. The vampires attack the city to destroy the tower powering the lights. Fine witnesses Momo listening to the music box, begging to die to escape the world’s misery. Momo’s friend Mirena is killed. Despite Momo being in the crossfire Nobara orders her men to shoot Fine. Also tired of the constant war Fine offers to help Momo survive and she agrees, fleeing into the wilderness together. The vampires are forced to retreat when the attack fails and the lights return. Nobara sends her brother Kubo to find Momo. Hiding in her mansion Fine tries to introduce Momo to music but she is too upset over Mirena’s death. Momo finds a picture in the music box of a place called Eden where vampires and humans enjoy music together. Fine’s friend and servant Allegro is charged with bringing Fine back. Fine has a nightmare of Mirena’s death so Fine plays another song and explains that music is a way to express emotions. Kubo trades blood to starving vampires and learns of the castle. Momo thanks Fine for trying to save Mirena and asks her to help sing to mourn her death, so Fine teaches her the lyrics that accompany the song from the music box. Kubo attacks the mansion with his men at the same time as vampires arrive, A battle ensues and Fine tells Allegro she refuses to return. Fine saves Momo when she is almost killed and they escape in a car. They laugh as they realise they both are running away from their unhappy lives. With the mansion destroyed Momo suggests they find Eden. Fine agrees to search for it, though she is sure it doesn’t really exist.
