Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] The story takes place in the fictional Japanese metropolis of City Z. The world is full of strange monsters that mysteriously appear and cause disasters. Saitama, the protagonist, is an exceptionally powerful hero who easily defeats the monsters or other villains with a single punch. However, due to his overwhelming strength, Saitama has become bored with his powers and is constantly trying to find stronger opponents who can fight him. On his adventures, he meets new friends, enemies, and his own disciple, the cyborg Genos, and joins the Heroes Association in order to gain fame for all of his efforts to defeat evil. Despite defeating many strong monsters that even the Heroes Association’s top members are unable to defeat, Saitama struggles to gain respect. Most people look down on him due to his plain physical appearance, and some accuse him of being a counterfeit hero. Only a small number of individuals recognize his incredible talent and humility towards others.

However, he is caught red-handed by the mysterious Nao Tomori and is forced to transfer to Hoshinoumi Academy (星ノ海学園 Hoshinoumi Gakuen^?, "Star Ocean Academy"), where he and the other student council members must help students with abilities.

Plot Summary: [Source: Wikipedia] The story revolves around Noel, a young girl who works at the North Pole as an apprentice Tonttu, which here is an assistance role helping wrap and prepare presents for delivery. After an incident the previous year, she has until dawn of Christmas Day to become a full-fledged Tonttu, but if she screws up she will lose her job and have to leave her friends behind. Unfortunately, no one can tell her how one graduates from apprenticeship, except that she needs to be able to "pass the exam" and be able to say just what the most important task of the Santas is. Late on Christmas Eve, a single request is received, but it is too late to deliver the gift. Desperate to be sure that child's present is delivered, Noel pulls her friends together for a desperate mission, taking the last remaining sleigh with her friends, at risk of her job and her whole life at the Pole.

Laika Studios has been unceremoniously pumping out highly respectable animation features from its Portland, Oregon headquarters for the past six years, bolstering its impressive catalog with family-friendly titles like Coraline, ParaNorman and The Boxtrolls.  Check out this majestic new trailer for its latest stop-motion project, Kubo and the Two Strings, a fantasy saga set amid the shadowy spirits of ancient Japanese samurai culture.

Here's the official synopsis from Laika:

An epic action-adventure from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA. Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of “Game of Thrones”) ekes out a humble living, telling fantastical stories to the people of his seaside town. Macross Delta

According to story creator Shoji Kawamori, Macross Delta is set in the year 2067, eight years after the events of the latest Macross TV series, Macross Frontier. A Macross Delta Preview Special will run on Japanese television on New Year's Eve, and the staff teased that "there is a rumor that the all-but-complete first episode of Macross Delta" will air in the special.

Canon Busters

[Source: blastr.com] After working on acclaimed animated series like The Boondocks and Legend of Korra, LeSean Thomas has decided to make his own animated series. We have the first look here, and it’s definitely shaping up to be one unique property.

Developed by Thomas, along with Japanese studio Satelight, Cannon Busters is being billed as “The Wizard of Oz meets the Hidden Fortress,” and after seeing the trailer, we’re inclined to agree. The series got its start on Kickstarter, where Thomas raised $150,000 to finance development for a 24-minute pilot episode. Now the teaser for that pilot has been released.

Here’s the show’s official synopsis, which is a trip in the best possible way:

Explore the fantastic land of Gearbolt as we follow a motley crew of travelers on an unforgettable journey to reunite 2 best friends. S.A.M. is a high-end, friendship robot, determined to reunite with her best friend Kelby, the missing heir to her Kingdom under siege. Casey Turnbuckle is an out-dated, spunky greasy-monkey repair robot, looking for an upgrade. Philly the Kid is a wanted, immortal fugitive just looking for a chance to shake them. Here's a pulse-pounding new extended trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt, the upcoming four-episode anime series launching next month from Sunshine and Bandai Visual.  Adapted from the manga spinoff of the same name written and illustrated by Yasuo Ohtagaki, this insane preview is a colorful riot of giant robots, armored outer-space combat, deadly Zaku snipers and bolts of searing coherent light all set to a hip, jazzy soundtrack.  It's a welcome addition to the ever-expanding Gundam universe that should entice hardcore fans and new converts alike.  The manga source material is set during the One Year War of the Universal Century and is based around events in the “Thunderbolt Sector,” a wasteland of destroyed battleships and ravaged colonies.

Here is the official synopsis:

The Universal Century began with mankind moving its burgeoning population into outer space. The year is UC0079. The cluster of colonies furthest from the Earth, Side 3, proclaim themselves the Principality of Zeon and launch a war of independence against the Earth Federation. Now, it is nearly one year since the war broke out. In the “Thunderbolt sector”, a reef section of space where a large quantity of wreckage from battleships and destroyed space colonies from the war lies, a violent battle plays out as the Earth Federation Forces set their sights on recapturing the Zeon controlled sector.

Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt’s first 18-minute episode will be available digitally in Japan on Dec. 25.

Heartwarming Story Behind R2-KT

A NEW DROID ON THE BLOCK

[Source: io9.com] There’s a little droid that’s appeared in Star Wars in the last couple of years, R2-KT. She’s an astromech with a special purpose: memorializing a little girl who passed away in 2005. Now, it looks like she’ll appear in bigger things. 

In 2004, Albin Johnson and his wife noticed that their daughter Katie was having some trouble: she kept falling down. After a doctor’s visit, they received horrifying news: their daughter had an inoperable brain tumor, and she only had months to live. The 501st Legion (which had been founded by Johnson) rallied to his cause. 

At Church, shortly after the diagnosis, he had an idea: why not create an R2 unit for Katie, to watch over her? The R2 Builder’s club began to put together a droid for the family once they learned what Johnson wanted to do, and after a suggestion from his daughter Allie, it would be painted pink, Katie’s favorite color.

When it became clear that a droid wouldn’t come together in time before Katie passed away, another astromech builder, Andy Schwartz, painted up his own and and shipped it over. Upon it’s arrival, Katie she threw her arms around it and gave it a hug, and it watched over her in her last days.

On August 9th, Katie passed away, to a massive outpouring of grief from the Star Wars community. Through her ordeal, she became a focal point and inspiration for the 501st Legion’s charitable efforts. 

In 2006, the R2 Builder’s club completed their own droid, and presented it to Johnson, who’s brought the droid out to charitable events over the years. Hasbro even made a limited edition action figure. 

It might have ended with that, but soon, the director of The Clone Wars, David Filoni, learned about the droid and incorporated her appearance into the television show as QT-KT, a droid owned by Aayla Secura. R2-KT also seems to have made her own appearances in the show.

It seems that R2-KT will appear in another Star Wars production: according to Geeks Speak and Albin Johnson, the little droid will appear at some point in The Force Awakens

Mary Franklin of Lucasfilm asked me to pitch the idea to Kathleen Kennedy (Lucasfilm President), and after hearing the story of our pink ambassador of hope Lucasfilm requested we ship her off to London early last year. Quick repairs were made and off she went for six months,” Johnson says in his email. While he could not disclose just when we could expect to see the pink droid, he was assured that she will definitely appear.

From the beginning of the The Force Awakens production, LFL President Kathleen Kennedy has said that the franchise’s fan base has been a key element in ensuring that there’ll be new Star Wars films: the R2-D2 used in the film was built by fan members of the R2 Builder’s club, and it looks as though Katie Johnson will be memorialized in a big way this December.

The Secret Life of Pets

Taking place in a Manhattan apartment building, Max's life as a favorite pet is turned upside down, when his owner brings home a sloppy mongrel named Duke. They have to put their quarrels behind when they find out that an adorable white bunny named Snowball is building an army of abandoned pets determined to take revenge on all happy-owned pets and their owners.

SANJAY'S SUPER TEAM (Directed by Sanjay Patel)

[Source: blastr.com] Pixar's entry into this season's Oscar race, this eye-popping CGI short chronicles the fanciful daydreams of a young Indian boy who conjures up Hindu superhero gods from his active imagination after growing bored with his father's religious meditations. Patel's sentimental animated short will premiere in front of Disney's The Good Dinosaur when it is released later this week.

'Force Awakens' Trailer Focuses on Kylo Ren

The previous trailer focused on the heroes, so this one focuses on the villains. Kylo Ren speaks throughout and there are a lot of explosions, Stormtroopers and scenes draped in red colors. Harrison Ford crawls out of some wreckage, Chewie yells about something, and we’re treated to one massive TIE Fighter/X-wing air battle.

Curtain to Fall on 'Gravity Falls'

[Source: Yahoo!TV] Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch took to social media to announce that the Disney XD series will wrap after two more episodes. “There’s no easy way to say it so I’m just going to say it: Gravity Falls is coming to an end,” he said in a Tumblr post. “There are two more episodes left: “Weirdmageddon II: Escape from Reality” and “Weirdmageddon III” which will be our hour long series finale. After that, Gravity Falls as we know it will be over.”

The animated series, which launched on Disney Channel in June 2012 and moved to Disney XD in August 2014, chronicled twins Dipper and Mabel, who live with Great Uncle Stan in the off-kilter town of Gravity Falls, Oregon.

Hirsch pointed out that he was ending Gravity Falls, rather than it being cancelled. It wasn’t a matter of ratings: The show’s midseason premiere in July drew Disney XD’s biggest audience ever for a regular series broadcast in Live+3.

“This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago,” he wrote. “I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.”

Meet the stars of MTV's Shannara Chronicles

THE SHANARRA CHRONICLES

[Source: blastr.com] With The Shannara Chronicles set to premiere early in the New Year, MTV has decided it was finally time for us to get to meet the main characters populating the upcoming fantasy series.

The new TV show is based on the beloved Shannara books by Terry Brooks (who is also on board as executive producer) and takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that looks much more akin to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings than it does to, say, Mad Max. Which is pretty normal when you have elves and magic and druids and demons. The series was even filmed in New Zealand, and from what I've seen so far, I think it looks absolutely gorgeous, even though the special effects don't hail from Weta Workshop but were surprisingly made in-house at MTV. The new series also has the added bonus of featuring LOTR alum John Rhys-Davies.

The five videos below introduce us to Allanon (Manu Bennett, of Spartacus and Arrow fame), the last remaining Druid; Amberle (Poppy Drayton), a new member of The Chosen; the human Eretria (Ivana Baquero), a member of the thieving Rover clan; the Elven King Eventine (Rhys-Davies) and his sons Arion (Daniel MacPherson) and Ander (Aaron Jakubenko); and, last but not least, our young hero Wil Ohmsford (Austin Butler), a half-human, half-elf who happens to be the last survivor of the Shannara bloodline.

The ten-part first season is based on the second book published, The Elfstones of Shannara, and was developed by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, whose other new post-apocalyptic series, Into the Badlands, just premiered on AMC this past Sunday.

The Shannara Chronicles will premiere on January 5, 2016, on MTV.
