Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town

Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town is a 1970 stop motion Christmas television special produced by Rankin/Bass Productions in New York, New York. The film is narrated by Fred Astaire and stars the voices of Mickey Rooney, Keenan Wynn, Robie Lester, Joan Gardner and Paul Frees, as well as an assistant song performance by the Westminster Children's Choir. The film tells the story of how Santa Claus and several Claus-related Christmas traditions came to be. It is based on the hit Christmas song, "Santa Claus Is Comin' to Town", which was written by J. Fred Coots and Haven Gillespie for Leo Feist, Inc. and introduced on radio by Eddie Cantor in 1934; and the story of Saint Nicholas. The special was created using Japanese stop motion animation called "Animagic", in which all the characters are made out of wood and plastic and animated via stop-motion photography. The special was originally telecast December 13, 1970, by ABC, which continues to air the special every year, along with its sister network Freeform, as of 2022 (commemorating the special's 50th anniversary), although, at times, both networks have edited the special to make room for commercials.

After a newsreel prologue stating that children around the world are preparing for the arrival of Santa Claus, a postman named Special Delivery "S.D." Kluger is introduced when his snowmobile/mail truck breaks down. After that, he tells the story of Santa in response to several letters sent from children. The story begins with a baby named Claus arriving on the doorstep of Burgermeister Meisterburger, the ill-tempered mayor of the gloomy Sombertown. Meisterburger orders his minion, Grimsley, to take Claus to an orphanage, but on the way there, a gust of wind blows the baby away. A group of animals takes Claus to the Kringles, a family of elves. The Kringles rename him Kris and raise him as their own, teaching him the practice of making toys.

When Kris is old enough, he travels to Sombertown, accompanied by a lost penguin he names Topper. Meanwhile, Meisterburger trips on a toy duck, so he enacts a law prohibiting toys. Kris arrives in town and bestows toys on the children, even giving one to Miss Jessica, their schoolteacher. Meisterburger arrives and orders Kris arrested, but Kris flees into the woods with Topper. Kris and Topper are captured by the wicked Winter Warlock, but the Warlock befriends Kris after he is given a toy train. To prevent further toy deliveries, Meisterburger orders all doors and windows locked, but Kris enters by the chimneys and places toys in the children's stockings. Meisterburger sets a trap for Kris, while his soldiers capture Winter and the Kringles.

Jessica visits the prison and converses with Winter, who has no magic left, except for some corn that enables reindeer to fly. With the reindeer's help, Kris and his friends escape. Soon after, Kris grows a beard as a disguise and returns to his "Claus" name. He marries Jessica and travels to the North Pole to build a toy workshop. With the death of Meisterburger, the toy ban is nullified, and Kris is deemed a saintly figure, becoming Santa Claus. Due to the enormous demand for toys, Santa limits his trips to one night a year; that being Christmas Eve, the holiest night of the year, and the perfect time for giving. After finishing the story, S.D. Kluger remembers that he has to deliver the letters to Santa. He leaves in his now-mended truck with Topper, Winter and a parade of children, singing "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town".

The only reason I used AI voices for Fred, daphne, Velma, and SG Kluger is because I can’t really afford to pay a ton of voice actors ATM, and it’s also difficult to find impersonators for the gang other than Shaggy and Scooby. This isn’t intended to make money, it’s honestly created as a portfolio piece and giant joke that took me way too long to animate. so I just used AI considering I’m a one man team and don’t have the means for many voice actors at the moment. If it counts for anything, the rest of the video is painstakingly designed, modeled, textured, animated, lit, rendered, edited, composited, and posted all by me, 1000% from scratch by hand with nothing other than my own brain and creative drive doing the work. I even learned to do a Scooby impression so I could voice Scooby myself! After being betrayed by his peers and lost both his father and his right arm, legendary craftsman "Jingoro Hidari" is on a journey of revenge with his partner "Sleeping Cat" and his mechanical prosthetic arm. Finally, Jingoro faces one of his adversaries "Inumaru" in a fight to the death...

This is a pilot version of the stop-motion samurai film that tells the story of "Jingoro Hidari," a legendary Edo-era craftsman. All the characters are made by wood and animated frame by frame, just like how Jingoro's wooden sculptures came to life in his many anecdotes. We hope you enjoy this film, which mixes dynamic actions as seen in Japanimation, and the rich analog expressions of stop-motion animation.

Our intention is to use this pilot film as a starting point to create a full length feature film. We're currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to gain support for our activities to find the necessary partners to go into production of the feature-length version. The main features of this simulated CBS Rankin Bass Christmas special include Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Little Drummer Boy, Santa Clause is Coming to Town and Frosty the Snowman. A few bonus classic Christmas cartoons are also included near the end, And all commercial breaks are packed full of nostalgic Christmas commercials from mostly the 70's and 80's. The special is not set in a specific time frame so the commercial dates will jump around a bit. Some of the commercials have even been edited slightly to remove the mention of the date. The first and last clip match each other so you can right click and select loop to repeat like a broadcast day. This is good for holiday chores or background entertainment for Christmas company.

As the rabbit slowly folded into nothing, the three men stared in amazement. Their new pet rabbit had been lost. They had bought it just a short train ride ago, and, being magicians, decided to make it black because they liked the color. After a short consultation amongst themselves, they came to the conclusion that the rabbit had been taken using a short-range teleportation spell. Accordingly, they began to search for their lost rabbit. As they searched, they became more and more infuriated about their rabbit being stolen right underneath their noses. The one-eyed man, having a telescope, had more visible range and just made out a small magic show hosted by a child. He pointed it out and they all decided to check it out. When they got to the surprisingly talented girl's show, they spotted the rabbit in a crate near the girl's feet. Obviously, they inquired as to how the girl had obtained it. She told them it was just a simple rabbit-in-a-hat trick, and that she intended to keep it. After a heated argument over the ownership of the rabbit, the men put her in a bag and cast a spell on the bag so that it would take the girl home, her being far too young to be on her own. After hauling the crate (still having the rabbit in it) quite a far distance, the crate suddenly flung itself onto the ground. What they saw next would be their worst nightmare. Their beautiful rabbit that they would cherish and love forever was morphed into a hideous beast, ready to tear them apart. Casting a counter-spell, the men waited for the rabbit to change back, but the girl had made the rabbit this way permanently. The rabbit launched a fireball at the men and they all fell, never to get back up again. As they were slowly dying, they watched the girl land and take a bow. It had all been a sadistic play, for no one to watch. It was all just to humor this girl that had stolen their beloved rabbit, and turned it into a monster. May those men rest in peace, they did what they could.

The film opens with a tall figure shrouded in a jacket and gas mask known only as The Assassin descending into a ruined, hellish world via a diving bell. In his possession the Assassin has a map of the world and a suitcase with a bomb which he has been tasked with detonating behind enemy lines within the desolate world; however, the map slowly deteriorates along the way.

Continuing his trek through the ruins, traveling through mutant lands, The Assassin encounters captive electronic torture victims and other horrors. Eventually he comes to find a city behind enemy lines, which is home to an army of nameless, faceless drones ruled by a baby-babbling monstrosity with filthy teeth and seared flesh. The Assassin halts for a moment here, pondering whether or not to take an ally, before he decides to escape while he can and descends into the bowels of the city, leaving a drone to be killed for walking away from the others. The Assassin discovers a mountain of suitcases just like his own, beneath the city bowels. These contain bombs, which his own bomb will detonate. As the Assassin primes his bomb and prepares to set it off, sitting down to await his death along with presumably every other mutant and person behind enemy lines, the Assassin fails to notice the creeping presence of a mutant of technological design. The mutant then pounces on The Assassin, capturing him and dragging him away as the bomb fails to detonate.

The Assassin is put on public display, where he is stripped and tortured in front of a mass of spectators. Shackled to a table, The Assassin lies there for what appears to be many days and weeks. His bandages, which cover his entire body, are yellowed with age, and his one exposed eye is red with dryness, having not blinked for quite a while. The Surgeon, or the Torturer, appears with a Nurse, who both begin a sadistic medical procedure upon the weakened Assassin. Systematically, and painfully, and ultimately fatally for the Assassin, the Surgeon cracks open The Assassin's chest, and begins rummaging through his chest cavity. Jewelry, and books, metaphors for useful secrets of war, are pulled and strewn about and read through - a particularly interesting book catches the Surgeon's eye, and he investigates, before throwing it away. Eventually, after a long period of rummaging and bloody searching, the Surgeon finds his goal; a precious, screaming child. The Surgeon hands it to the Nurse.

In the world above, the Last Man gives a map forged by witches to another Assassin and sends him down in another diving bell. Driving a motorcycle and then a jeep, the New Assassin follows the map through a munitions depot, a graveyard, and a war zone before descending down a spiral roadway. The nurse brings the baby to a floating creature who escorts the child to an alchemist’s lair. The alchemist grinds the baby into liquid, smelts the liquid into metal, and crushes the metal into crystals that he hands back to the creature.

The creature scatters the crystals into a fiery portal. A new universe forms that rapidly decays into another ruined world.

We Are Batman - Make-A-Wish Animation

Make-A-Wish Stop-Motion Animation

Oklahoma studio Reckless Abandonment Pictures is back at it again with a "Bat-Tastic" stop motion to make a wish come true for a 12-year-old kid facing a rare disease by helping him create a Batman stop-motion animation. Happy Batman month, y'all!

Reckless Abandonment creative director Kyle Roberts is known for his stop-motions, animating commercial work for LEGO, DreamWorks, Disney, Hasbro, Mattel, etc.

“Make-A-Wish contacted me and told me that they have a 12-year-old kid that loves animation and our stop motions,” Roberts said.

Booker, who has a rare disease called Shwachman-Diamond, has a passion for stop-motion animation and wanted to check out the Reckless Abandonment studio for his wish.

“I felt honored they even thought of us, but wanted to level up Booker's wish by actually producing a STOP MOTION ANIMATION with him! So the wish was set, for Booker to produce a stop motion with our team,” Roberts said.

“Starting pre-production, we asked Booker who his favorite superheroes are. First up, Batman, then Superman, Joker, Harley Quinn, Wonder Woman and Robin. Our team crafted a short story with Booker and once we got the story locked in, began storyboarding and animating the stop motion,” Roberts said. Booker's take on why he loves Batman; "Three main reasons. Because he is good with tech (Batarangs). He is trained as a Ninja. His costume and personality are scary but he is good." All fair points!

Booker came to the studio for one of the animating days and also made a live action cameo with his dad! After 1,200 individual photos and 3 weeks of work, the stop motion animation part of the production was wrapped. Booker also came to the studio for a day during post production where the team walked through tricks and tips in compositing and rotoscoping. "I liked getting to hang out with people who like stop motion as much as I do. I'm thankful for the Reckless team for explaining how it works. It was a dream come true to make this stop motion with them," Booker said.

"I am very thankful that the Reckless and Make-A-Wish looks out for kids like me who have an illness," Booker said.

“Booker is such a radical dude,” Roberts said. “I was amazed how quickly he picked up animating with the toys. Booker is also a pretty incredible artist. Our team took one of his drawings and 3D Printed/Painted it! Meet Papalo, a teenage mutant plant dude! Booker had a whole back story on Papalo. I asked him if he was a Hero or Villain... and Booker said ‘He's a little of both.’”

A Year Without A Santa Claus

Enjoy the Songs of the Most Beloved Christmas Shows Ever!

Santa Claus wakes up with a cold sometime before Christmas. His doctor, who thinks nobody cares about him anymore, advises him to make some changes to his routine, so Santa decides to take a holiday instead of delivering gifts. Mrs. Claus unsuccessfully tries to convince him otherwise, so she enlists two elves named Jingle and Jangle to find proof that people still believe in Santa. Jingle and Jangle set out with Santa's youngest reindeer Vixen, but are shot down by crossfire between the conflicting Miser Brothers: Snow Miser, who controls the world's cold weather, and Heat Miser, who controls its warm weather. 

Jingle, Jangle, and Vixen come upon Southtown, a small town in the southern United States. They ask a group of children, including a boy named Iggy, if they believe in Santa, but they are skeptical. To make matters worse, Vixen is ticketed by a policeman and later sent to the local dog pound after Jingle and Jangle disguise her as an "instant Rover". The policeman refers them to the town's mayor, who laughs at their story but agrees to free Vixen if they can prove they are elves by making it snow in Southtown on Christmas. 

Jingle and Jangle call Mrs. Claus to pick them up. As she leaves, Santa discovers Vixen is missing and travels to Southtown himself to retrieve her while disguised as a civilian named "Claus". While there, he meets Iggy and his family. Iggy asks him if he believes in Santa, and he replies that he believes "like I believe in love". Iggy's father reveals that Santa personally visited him one Christmas, and he still believes. When "Claus" leaves to retrieve Vixen, Iggy realizes his true identity and resolves to help Jingle and Jangle.

Iggy joins Mrs. Claus when she arrives to pick up Jingle and Jangle, and together they visit the Miser Brothers. They ask Snow Miser to send snow to Southtown for a day; he is agreeable but says he cannot as it is part of Heat Miser's territory. They then ask Heat Miser, who says he will only comply if Snow Miser gives him the North Pole for a day in exchange. The brothers begin bickering again; Mrs. Claus goes to see their mother, Mother Nature, who convinces her sons to compromise. 

As Christmas approaches, the world's children send their own presents to Santa, setting off international headlines. However, one girl misses Santa and writes him that she will have a "Blue Christmas". Touched by the outpouring of generosity and appreciation, Santa decides to make his journey after all. On Christmas Eve, he makes a public stop in Southtown during a snowfall. The next day, the children, including Iggy, are delighted to receive their presents. 

As the special ends, Mrs. Claus narrates that somehow, "yearly, newly, faithfully and truly", Santa always comes. Santa is shown getting out of bed to prepare himself, his reindeer, and his gift-loaded sleigh, remarking he could never imagine "a year without a Santa Claus".

Special Delivery "S.D." Kluger is introduced after a newsreel prologue, telling the viewer how children around the world are preparing for the arrival of Santa Claus. When his mail truck breaks down, he tells the story of Santa Claus by answering the children's letters to Santa.

The story begins in the gloomy city of Sombertown, ruled by the ill-tempered Burgermeister Meisterburger. A baby arrives on his doorstep with a name tag reading "Claus" and note requesting that the Burgermeister raise the child. He then orders his lawkeeper Grimsley to take the baby to the "Orphan Asylum". On the way there, a gust of wind blows both sled and baby to the mountain of the Whispering Winds, where the animals hide him from the Winter Warlock and convey him to a family of Christmas Elves by the name of Kringle. Led by their matron, Tanta Kringle, the family adopts the baby and names him “Kris”. A few years later, Kris hopes to restore the Kringle family as "The First Toymakers to the King".

When Kris is old enough, he volunteers to deliver the elves' toys to Sombertown. Meanwhile, the Burgermeister has banned all toys in the town and declares that anyone found possessing a toy will be arrested. On his way to Sombertown, Kris meets a lost penguin whom he names Topper. In the town, he offers toys to two children washing their stockings by a water fountain. He is stopped by Miss Jessica, their lovely schoolteacher, but she softens toward Kris when he offers her a china doll as a "peace offering". As Kris gives out more toys, the Burgermeister arrives, and Kris gives him a yo-yo. The Burgermeister at first happily plays with it, but when Grimsley reminds him that he is breaking his own law, the Burgermeister orders Kris captured.

As Kris and Topper return to the Kringles, the Winter Warlock captures them. But when Kris gives him a toy train as a present, the Warlock's evil exterior melts and he befriends Kris. To repay him, Winter reunites Kris with Jessica, who informs him that the Burgermeister has destroyed all the toys and the children now request new ones. To protect the town from further toy deliveries, the Burgermeister orders all doors and windows to be locked. But Kris enters by the chimneys and places toys in the children's hung stockings. The Burgermeister then sets a trap for Kris and Topper as he makes another delivery while his soldiers capture the Kringles and Winter. Jessica pleads with the Burgermeister to release her friends, but he refuses. Coming to the prison, Jessica asks Winter to break everyone out but he sadly refuses, having little magic left except some magic feed corn which enables reindeer to fly. With the reindeer's help, the group all escape. After months as an outlaw and discovery that their home was destroyed by the Burgermeister's guards, Kris grows a beard as a disguise. After Tanta suggests he return to his birth name "Claus" for safety, Kris marries Jessica. After the ceremony, the group travels to the North Pole to build their a castle and toy workshop. As the years pass and Kris and Jessica grow older, Kris travels only at night until the Meisterburgers have died off and Kris' legend goes worldwide. Having become Santa Claus, he is unable to fulfill all the toy requests throughout the year, and reserves his efforts for Christmas Eve.

At the end, S.D. Kluger suddenly realizes that it's getting late and remembers that he still has to deliver letters to Santa. He then drives off with Topper, Winter, the Kringles, and a parade of children as he sings "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" during the credits. At the close, Santa steps out of his castle and waves to the viewers.
