12 BIG events the 1st day of San Diego Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con, July 17-21, 2013
  • San Diego Comic-Con is one of the biggest sci-fi events on the planet — and the 2013 edition is loaded with great events to check out. The con has obviously evolved from its comic roots, but there are still more than enough ink-stained events scattered among the TV and movie panels to keep everyone entertained. So from first-look footage of future blockbusters to a chance to hang out and chat with some sci-fi legends, check out 12 events (plus a bonus) you have to see on
    Thursday, July 18, 2013:

[#1] See the 1st footage of Divergent and new footage of Ender’s GameThese two high-profile sci-fi flicks will share a panel, and will feature the debut of footage from Divergent. But, the studio will also be showing off some shiny new footage from Ender’s Game, meaning this one will be jam-packed with young adult sci-fi goodness.

[#2] Check out the pilot for CBS's Intelligence
Good news, Lost fans: If you've been missing Josh Holloway, he'll be back in a big way this fall via this sci-fi thriller. Basically like a mix of Chuck meets Person of Interest, this series will follow Holloway's ass-kicking agent with a microchip in his brain.

[#3] Hang with Robert Kirkman and talk Walking Dead
With this series lighting up the airwaves, creator Robert Kirkman will be talking about the comic that inspired it all, as the series celebrates its 10-year anniversary. Who knows, this Thursday panel will probably be our best shot at getting some info about season four.

[#4] Chat with Kevin Eastman about the Ninja Turtles
While we wait on pins and needles to see what Michael Bay does with the latest big screen version, original co-creator Kevin Eastman will be on hand to talk about the comic that inspired all those movies/'toons about everyone's favorite heroes in a half shell.

[#5] From Doctor Who to Thrones: Meet TV’s hot new stars
Entertainment Weekly is pulling together Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Kit Harrington (Game of Thrones), Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead), Tyler Posey (Teen Wolf) and David Giuntoli (Grimm) in a big panel of good-looking young folk talking about sci-fi series.

[#6] Talk Hannibal with Bryan Fuller
Bryan Fuller has been responsible for some of the greatest sci-fi and fantasy shows in history (though most only lasted 1-2 seasons, sadly). He’ll be on hand to promote his acclaimed new NBC series Hannibal, along with a star or two from the series. Who knows, he might even drop some Pushing Daisies tidbits,
    as well!

    [#7] The X-Files 20th Anniversary
We’re still holding out hope for a new film, but for now this 20th anniversary panel will have to do. Creator Chris Carter will be on hand to chat about the series with moderators from TV Guide. Stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to appear, as well, making this a must-see event.

    _______________________________________________

[#8] Hang with Moffat and talk Sherlock
The next season of BBC’s Sherlock is on the way, and geek god Steven Moffat (Doctor Who) and producers Mark Gatiss and Sue Verte will be on hand to tease what’s coming Thursday. Sadly, Benedict Cumberbatch isn’t listed to attend, so we’ll have to make due with Moffat and Co.

    [#9] Battlestar Galactica’s 35th Anniversary Celebration
No, we’re not talking about Ronald D. Moore’s reboot. The original series is celebrating a pretty massive milestone, and original star Richard Hatch (Capt. Apollo/Tom Zarek in the reboot) will be there to host. Stars and creatives from all iterations from the series are set to pop up at the Thursday event.

[#10] DC Entertainment: All Access panel
For all the TV and movie insanity going on at the event, it can be easy to forget that it all comes back to the comics. From Brian Buccellato, Mark Buckingham, Derek Fridolfs, Adam Hughes, Geoff Johns and Gail Simone — there’ll be a lot of DC personalities on hand talking comics come Thursday.

[#11] Batman: Arkham Origins sneak peek
The latest installment in the massively successful Batman Arkham video game series doesn’t arrive until late October — but lucky Comic Con attendees can get a look at it early at this Thursday panel. The series has become one of the biggest, most acclaimed in history, and the latest edition looks to be one of the best yet.

[#12] Finally see what Europa Report is all about
This creepy sci-fi flick is getting a lot of buzz, despite the fact we haven’t seen a lot of it — but the creators will be on hand to tell us all about it during a Thursday panel. Director Sebastian Cordero, composer Bear McCreary, producer Ben Browning and a few real JPL scientists will all take part in letting us know what this flick is all about.

[BONUS] (Wednesday night): Sneak peek at Almost Human, Tomorrow People pilots
Festivities will kick off Wednesday night with some new pilot previews — including a few of the most hotly anticipated sci-fi series of the fall. The highlights? J.J. Abrams’ future-set robo-cop series Almost Human at Fox and The CW’s Tomorrow People. Pilots for The CW’s Originals and The 100 will also be screened.
